It's been over 15 years since I had him as a professor and I just saw him on the northeastern alumni website, and it reminded me of how much he was an egotistical, pompous, rude towards students (even for a architecture professor) he did not agree with...... Ideologically! Good to see they have another person running the architecture program nowARCH1000 2024-05-02 03:18:13 +0000 UTC
Not a good studio professor or course, there weren't any big ideas introduced in the class. Seriously question why he is teaching a class like this. He thinks his "concepts" are out-of-this-world. Not really. Man. And also, the desk crits are horrible. Really horrible.ARCH5000 2017-05-20 18:58:26 +0000 UTC
Offering opinions counter to his own can be dangerous to your academic careerCLASSSECT 2007-06-24 17:34:11 +0000 UTC
Not only is George Thrush one of the most intelligent, charismatic and one of the most good looking professors at Northeastern, you can tell how good of a mood he is in by how many buttons are undone on his shirt; the lower the better.ARCU100 2006-11-10 15:15:00 +0000 UTC
I think that some of the concepts he tries to teach just aren't that profound or complicated but, you wouldn't know it by listening to him. I know he likes to hear himself talk. Will probably be the most influential design teach you have at NortheasternTHESIS 2004-05-19 11:51:36 +0000 UTC
The class consisted of guest speakers talking about aspects of design every class. Following that, Thrush would have a podcast-style conversation with the guest. It was interesting sometimes, but would drag on occasion; it could get very boring. There were very few assignments, and they were entirely based on what was presented in class.ARCH1450 2015-02-23 23:41:33 +0000 UTC
He brought in peers from Harvard to review students' work. They were joking about how awful he was behind his back. It was obvious he wasn't respected by his peers. He was a joke! He never actually showed anything he had designed or worked on. "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach."ARCH1000 2024-05-01 13:26:11 +0000 UTC
Great introduction to architecture. Funny, interesting, and relevant. very good. Professor is really passionate about the field.ARCU100 2005-08-24 08:52:22 +0000 UTC
Great class. In any other design appreciation course, having one of those guests would have been the highlight of the semester. Instead, we got 2 a week!!! Only at Northeastern.ARCH1450 2014-12-09 23:24:11 +0000 UTC
George was part of the reason I gave up on my dream of becoming an architect. He showed me what I didn't want to become: An arrogant, back-stabbing narcissist focused too heavily on one's own career to see ability of others.ARCH1000 2022-01-26 20:27:58 +0000 UTC
Professor Thrush is great. His Understanding Design class is really interesting; you get to hear some really brilliant design thinkers speak about how the design process applies to their work. Show up to class cause he takes attendance, but if you miss a class the lectures are posted online. Assignments are very straightforward.ARCH1450 2014-10-20 20:01:58 +0000 UTC
He can't wait to tell you he went to Harvard. We had a critique with some of his colleagues from Harvard. Leading up to the presentation, George liked everyone's progress. When the guest critics started tearing everyone apart, George went right alone with them. He never showed us anything he actually designed that was built.ARCH1000 2017-05-09 14:57:24 +0000 UTC
easy class, cool guy who knows quite alot about architecture. gets slightly off topic but is always interesting.ARCH1000 2012-12-21 18:54:22 +0000 UTC
