Ilya is a very kind teacher. He is truly passionate about the course content and considerate about the struggles undergraduate students face when realistically trying to get work done. Amazing course, I learned a lot about dance and tried new styles. It's a great combination of reflection, practice, and understanding styles and history. If you take ethics in creativity, understand it now that it is not an ethics course. This is an art class. Be prepared to spend over 20 hours a week working on his assignments and creating prototypes. His TA's are very tough graders. Best arts-based research class I've ever taken. The course project is basically just an opportunity to spend time creating art that matters to you, and figuring out why it matters. Best arts-based research class I've ever taken! Ilya lets you choose something that inspires you to be a better person and the whole project is just to make some iterative art as a response. Assignments are confusing; he could've expressed the instructions more simply. Workload begins light but progressively becomes intense. Hard grader! Beware if traveling; this class requires TIME to think critically and create. This class was very entertaining but the assignments we were given were pretty tough. We would have weekly essays that we'd have to write up, and those were graded harshly. Ilya is incredibly smart and can communicate ideas extremely well. He has extensive knowledge in a number of different areas and can answer questions on most topics. He is very caring and gives good feedback, and his class sessions are valuable. Very talented, smart, and well read professor teaching a passion project course. Ilya will help you if you don't slack. This course was more than I bargained for, but still a good experience.
