I really liked the style of the class, and I can confidently say I learned A LOT. Only criticism would be the time he takes to return grades. He will often give the same assignment without grading the previous one, which makes doing well, and knowing your grade very difficult. Also, bit of a harsh grader, but overall, great professor, great class.CLTR1501 2025-04-28 03:54:37 +0000 UTC
Professor Griffiths is really funny and understanding, just make sure you communicate with him first if you're unable to attend class. class over all is fun we do a lot of reviews from the engage assignments and do in class review sessions. I wish I could retake this class again.FRNH1101 2025-01-15 18:52:34 +0000 UTC
Ive had this guy for three classes now, and Ive loved every one. Ive learned a lot in 1101-1102 and Im finishing FRNH 2900 which is one of the hardest classes Ive taken yet. Really great professor, though. He gives lots of work and hes very tough but all-around great guy.FRNH2900 2021-06-18 00:27:57 +0000 UTC
Genuinly one of my favorite professors thus far. His class is very interesting and easy to follow. Lots of reading so just do your homework and come prepared. Tests are not meant to be hard whatsoever and I think he was a very lienent grader. Made me question if I should switch to the humanities.CLTR1501 2025-04-20 16:52:26 +0000 UTC
No bueno. Had trouble managing anger, yelled at students in an unprofessional manner several times. Unfair grader. Did not communicate well. The other two professors who teach this class are significantly better.FRNH1101 2025-01-02 19:23:41 +0000 UTC
Full disclosure, I had him for a culture class in English, not a French language class. I took this class for a major requirement, and it turned out to be one of my favorite classes I've had at Northeastern. We covered a lot of different topics, but each one was interesting, and he did a great job of facilitating engaging discussions on each one.CLTR1501 2023-05-30 23:19:31 +0000 UTC
He's passionate about teaching, but the workload for the class was absurdly demanding, often surpassing the combined effort required for all other classes. This intensity is disproportionate for an elective, especially for students pursuing unrelated majors. He comes across as overly rigid and personal, this made class unnecessarily stressful.FRNH1101 2024-12-13 17:39:11 +0000 UTC
Prof. Griffiths knows his stuff and knows how to teach it, but he also made a lot of mistakes and would apologize but then not do anything about it (ie. telling us something wouldn't be on the test then he apologized when it was but didn't scrap that section). He is a very tough grader and you have to work hard to get an A, but he is a sweet guy.FRNH1101 2024-01-31 02:34:39 +0000 UTC
Weird level of difficulty for both 1101 and 1102. He will say an exam will be hard and then is surprised when students don't do very well. He prioritized teaching us about how French is not inclusive to others rather than having us learn the language. You will lose substantial points for using English in FRNH 1102 even to ask a question.FRNH1101 2023-11-07 20:33:39 +0000 UTC
This class is way too advanced for French 1. He assigns HOURS of homework a night and none of it is helpful. He barely goes over any content in class and never goes over how to write but then gives quizzes where you have to write paragraphs. He says there are "no exams" but then gives long and DIFFICULT quizzes every 2 weeks. I barely passed.FRNH1101 2023-02-23 01:46:08 +0000 UTC
Really great teacher. I've enjoyed FRNH1101 and FRNH1102 with him and would easily take any other class he teaches. He's always engaged and ready to help. Passionate about French and loves having class chats. He's not strict or harsh at all. Just a really helpful, laidback guy. Don't slack off with homework, he can tell.FRNH1101 2022-07-06 09:38:14 +0000 UTC
This class isn't for the faint of heart. His strict policy on 'late assignments get a zero' was a large cause of stress for my class. Though he claims that he gives out a fair amount of work, expect over 10 hours of homework each week. If you are extremely passionate about French, I would recommend. If not, avoid this class.FRNH1101 2022-05-09 21:04:28 +0000 UTC
I honestly didn't like his class, I did not enjoy it at all because he expected us to know everything too fast and the workload was crazy.FRNH1101 2022-01-16 05:12:08 +0000 UTC
As a student in the COS that took Prof Griffiths's course out of pure interest and not b/c it was required, I found the course to be pretty cool and informational. My interest probably made it easier and less painful to study tons of new vocab within the span of one semester, but Prof Griffiths is truly chill and a caring guy that I would recommendFRNH1101 2021-12-22 22:35:49 +0000 UTC
He puts us down constantly. We're always not smart enough for him even though it's a French 1 class. He makes participation a huge part of our grade and then asks trick questions to embarrass us. Don't take this professorFRNH1101 2021-04-14 15:48:49 +0000 UTC
