jeff is a very nice person and gives great lectures, but his class was super disorganized. you are also graded by few things and it takes a while for him to grade, but you do learn in his class. he is caring and can be a tough grader, but he will meet you halfway. as long as you show effort, you will be fine.JRNL3305 2024-01-07 02:00:11 +0000 UTC
Prof. Howe is one of the best professors I've ever had. He truly cares for his students and puts a lot of effort into making sure they improve. His class isn't easy but he'll improve your writing and knowledge more than you know. Only class that felt normal this semester. SO unorganized! Rambles off topic, late to class, has not graded anything, assignments like papers and group projects, he does not give enough information on, unclear due dates/rubric. Disorganized in every way possible. He goes on odd tangents, doesn't explain expectations, assignments are unclear, and if you ask to meet with him he will ghost you and tell you he didn't get your emails. Professor Howe's brilliance and charisma made you excited to attend class. That said, he was disorganized and would frequently switch the curriculum to topics that he found interesting yet were far different from the content we were expecting to learn. I took Jeff's class in 2013. In hindsight, Jeff was one of the best mentors I ever had. Not only does he care about his students, he turned me, someone who always struggled with writing and communication, into a person who now relies on these skills for a living. He's pretty unorganized and takes a very long time to get back to you via email. He's often vague with his assignments and writing prompts, and participation is mandatory and heavily encouraged (it makes up a quarter of your grade). Given the chance to take a class with Jeff you would be stupid not to. He cares about his students so much. You'll never be bored in class. He's the type of prof that you want to go to class and office hours. Really helpful with assignments, wants you to succeed. Our class loved him so much, we kind of became a family. I had Jeff for Interpreting the Day's News and he was amazing. He has such useful insight and is knowledgeable about so many things. If you pay attention to what he says you will leave this class feeling incredibly fulfilled. Even his tangents are meaningful. He's the type of prof that makes the $60k tuition worth it.
