I enjoyed Prof Guilfoil's PR Principles class, he's clearly very knowledgeable, experienced, and approachable. He includes a lot of anecdotes from his own career, and I left his class with a very detailed picture of what the PR industry looks like.PREL1425 2026-01-27 19:46:49 +0000 UTC
Pretty nice guy, not a whole lot of work except the final project. Although I wasn't the biggest fan of how he taught and explained some things, he gave a somewhat decent basis to an interesting topic. Helped prepare expectations for journalism.JRNL1150 2024-04-16 16:45:16 +0000 UTC
He's a nice guy, has a lot of real world experience. That being said he was very unavailable, cancelled class very frequently (with the rate of tuition and the frequency of cancelling this was upsetting), he also did not grade anything till the very end and barely answered emails.JRNL3425 2020-12-10 02:03:23 +0000 UTC
Really great professor. Enjoys his job. Very knowledgeable.JRN101 2015-07-25 21:18:59 +0000 UTC
Great lecturer ! and pretty easy graderPREL1425 2025-04-11 13:07:16 +0000 UTC
John Guilfoil is an amazing lecturer, he knows how to captivate an audience. His grading guidelines are clear, and it's hard to receive less than an A in the class. His lectures often end early and are just chill discussions. The course is probably the most costly one I've taken, with a $190 price tag on his book and the Globe subscription.JRNL1150 2023-09-29 21:49:26 +0000 UTC
Took him for PR Principles. He's really nice and knows what he's talking about. You do have to buy his book for the class, and each week you write a reflection on the chapters. There's also a group project, which is actually cool and a good learning experience. Overall, he's a great professor, but he's not the best at replying to emails.PREL1425 2025-04-11 02:05:43 +0000 UTC
Professor Guilfoil was the most amazing lecturer I've ever had. He challenged our class with difficult conversations and loved to make us uncomfortable but in a good way. He canceled class very often, but understandably considering that teaching is not his primary job. I highly suggest that everyone takes Understanding Today's news with him.JRNL1150 2022-04-26 15:52:54 +0000 UTC
such a fun class! super chillJRNL1150 2022-04-23 19:23:52 +0000 UTC
Professor Guilfoil was great. I had him for two months before online class due to COVID-19 but was still great during online classes. He did pop quizzes based on news of the Boston Globe posted that morning. Classes were fun and laid back, he encouraged discussions and touched on really interesting topics. Weekly reflection papers (1 page).JRNL1150 2020-04-09 17:18:16 +0000 UTC
Knowledgeable and great at his job. Took class as an elective and it was my favorite class all semester. Best prof I've hadJRNL1150 2016-04-14 10:50:25 +0000 UTC
Took him for Interpreting the Day's News at Northeastern. Great professor, really knows a lot about reporting and the whole journalism industry. Lectures were really laid-back and he encouraged discussion, not just him talking at the students. Not a harsh grader. Lets you pick your own topics for papers--really interesting. WOULD RECOMMEND!JRNL1150 2015-12-29 05:46:15 +0000 UTC
