Mal is a fantastic professor, but you'll need to meet him halfway to get the most out of his courses. He's soft-spoken and an easy grader, so it can be easy to slack off, but you'll truly learn so much if you sit closer to the front and pay attention. He rewards good ideas and doesn't care much about the details; make an effort and you can shine.ENVS4997 2025-08-14 13:25:23 +0000 UTC
Mal is awesome! this was my intro to GIS class and I found him to be so sweet and talktative. his lectures could get a little boring sometimes but the info was all online and his slideshows were easy to engage with. the labs were interesting and i learned a lot. the final/midterm were not hard and a good way to make sure i had actually learnedENVR3300 2024-05-14 22:48:28 +0000 UTC
Mal was genuinely so kind. The lectures did get boring at times because you are just learning a bunch of facts about data but Mal tried to keep us entertained. This was also his first time teaching this class so the grading was lenient. Overall Mal is 10/10 and definitely wants to see you succeed.ENVR1400 2024-05-11 03:46:09 +0000 UTC
Mal is super sweet and super funny. Always willing to bump your grade up if you correct your mistakes on assignments. The class material is boring no matter who you take it with, but Mal will always try to get you out of lecture with time to spare. Would highly recommendENVR1500 2024-04-22 17:36:52 +0000 UTC
Although the class itself is difficult, Professor Mal is an easy grader, take his class! One of the best professors in Northeastern, love him so much!ENVR2310 2022-12-20 01:15:55 +0000 UTC
Professor Hill is an amazing professor!! Took him for his Honors Water in the Environment class and he was very clear with the grading criteria - one paper, a midterm, and final (all open-book). The workload was very manageable! - Take his class if you can - the professor is great and it's an Easy A class where you learn a lot!HONR3310 2021-05-06 02:10:48 +0000 UTC
really nice teacher. a bit lecture heavy but manageable.ENVR3200 2020-12-13 07:25:12 +0000 UTC
The Lorax! Good teacher. Funny and super nice. Gets to know his students and cares a lot about their success. Can go on tangents occasionally but is easy going. Fairly easy A if you study.ENVR1200 2018-11-14 11:08:55 +0000 UTC
Mal is entertaining and very enthusiastic about his subject. He makes constant analogies that often go off-topic and his lectures can be hard to follow, but showing up to class isn't always necessary. He's an easy grader- just skim the chapters before the midterm & final, only tests we had. Loved this class.HONR120601 2015-04-23 15:01:22 +0000 UTC
He is a pushover and doesn't care about the material we learn, only that people like him. Take his class for an easy A but don't expect to learn anything.ENVR4223 2011-12-27 09:34:59 +0000 UTC
The man loves what he does and it clearly shows. He's not a stickler for attendance but he'll make a joke about it the next time you show up and keep right on teaching. Labs are straightforward and he has the best and funniest ways of explaining difficult concepts and making them clear. Favorite teacher, hands down.ENVR3400 2011-12-05 16:21:26 +0000 UTC
Good prof, on a first name basis with most students. Loves what he teaches and it shows. sometimes a little hard to follow in lecture, so speak up if you're lost and he'll explain it more clearly. His quirks are awesome and hilarious.ENV560 2008-12-21 21:27:15 +0000 UTC
Mal is one of the best professors I've had. He teaches difficult material, but makes it as fun and interesting as possible. All around great guy who will go above and beyhond to help you out!ETHMAT 2008-09-15 17:46:13 +0000 UTC
Mal Hill is such a rare gem. Hes definitely an odd ball and his teaching style might not suit everyone, but he truly cares about his students. In the end, all Mal wants to do is teach you something meaningful and useful to you and your career. He takes the time to connect with students in a way that most profs dont anymore.ENVS4997 2020-04-20 16:41:57 +0000 UTC
I took his class exactly a year ago, and he is perhaps my favorite professor at Northeastern. The subject matter didn't come easy to me, especially as an environmental studies major with very little experience in technical or computer-related areas, but Mal really gives you every resource you need to succeed, and is so kind and funny.ENVR3300 2024-04-13 18:00:27 +0000 UTC
