He is very serious (not sure I've ever heard him laugh and have rarely seen him smile), but he's clear in the material. Ballard is so full of himself. It's never a good sign when the first book the prof asks you to buy is one he wrote himself. Attendance is taken pretty seriously. He's not very clear on what he's looking for in an essay and isn't afraid to tear you apart using very insulting comments when he hands it back. While I agree that Campbell is rather boring and his lectures are not wholly interesting, I did not find him to be a tough grader. Also, some people have mentioned that he hates anyone who questions him and I found this to be patently untrue.
