THIS MAN IS A LEGEND. The lecture videos are so well done, and he is passionate and ready to help outside of class. If you want to make games as a hobby, or are pursuing the major, start by taking a course with this guy. ++CS3540 2025-03-14 17:42:43 +0000 UTC
So much homework. SUPER HEAVY WORKLOAD!!! Sometimes one homework was not due and he already released another one. Homework has extremely long instructions. Takes up to 24 hours to finish. Submission's a pain in the ass. Does learn a lot and make a lot of projects but none are useful unless you tryna be a game programmer.CS5340 2025-02-25 01:59:41 +0000 UTC
DO NOT take HCI with him if you actually want to go into UI/UX+already have experience working with clients. This class is only helpful for students who are minimally interested in UX design because he doesn't teach industry-standard tools. He teaches the design process as if there's only one way to do it and uses Axure for the course and not FigmaIS4300 2023-11-20 18:15:31 +0000 UTC
Took him during the summer for the summer classes in Seattle, can be a bit condescending at times but can be funny. This class is based off of a group project so if you get a crappy team, be prepared to do all of the work yourself, get a good team, this class will be a breeze.CS4973 2023-06-21 17:46:31 +0000 UTC
Sarcastic, condescending, and spends a disproportionate amount of class time expressing disappointment and frustration at students. It would be better for everyone if the professor could maintain a level head and positive attitude, and put more effort into understanding why students are not enjoying the class.CS5097 2023-03-07 14:54:09 +0000 UTC
Professor Yildirim is the GOAT, and easily one of the most respected and beloved professors in Khoury. I've gone back to his lecture notes to prep for interviews, since he does an excellent job of explaining things effectively + concisely. If you're going to take DS3000, make sure you take it with Caglar!DS3000 2022-04-04 04:06:42 +0000 UTC
Avoid unless super interested in Unity/Games. You can learn a decent amount if you apply yourself, but be warned that Calgar has some... let's just say issues when interfacing with his students, and that's if he manages to reply to your emails at all. If you do take this class, follow assignments exactly, and just avoid Calgar. Then you're fine.CS3540 2024-06-21 20:10:16 +0000 UTC
Without a doubt, one of the best classes I have taken! Prof is super friendly and loves Harry Potter! Course is extremely well structured and everything is laid on the table in the first class. Gives ample time to complete the big assignments and encourages class participation. He's very responsive to questions and makes sure the load is balanced.CS5340 2020-12-22 09:24:23 +0000 UTC
Cared a lot about students and put a lot of effort to make sure even the people who could not make it to live lectures be able to understand the materials and participate with other students for group projects. Well organized lectures and materials, inclusive environment. I'd take all classes with him if he were teaching them! Highly recommend. <3IS4300 2021-03-11 00:46:32 +0000 UTC
The Professor did an AMAZING job curating online course content. He had prerecorded lectures with accompanying notebooks that could be watched at the students convenience. On alternating class days there were (very) short lab activities. He was also easily accessible, and sent out weekly correspondences reminding us of upcoming activities.DS3000 2020-11-20 15:13:54 +0000 UTC
Brilliant, funny, and clear professor. You almost felt sad for him - he was enthusiastic beyond belief but the long class and intro level material meant noone was paying attention by the end. You can work on a cool ML project come the end of the class as well, and the class is usually taken just when you want projects for your resume. 100% take himDS3000 2020-06-27 03:47:18 +0000 UTC
Quizzes are amazing, can help with grade. Homework assignments are straight forward, Can Be Done. No in-class tests and no final exam, but there is a final group project. Project is mainly stats- and presentation-based. There's also in-class assignments, so that gets you to class, but they're 10% in total. Great professor, major hogwarts fan.DS3000 2020-01-08 20:23:10 +0000 UTC
Calgar's great! No exams. The few homeworks, in-class exercises, and quizzes were all doable. He offers extra credit, really listens to the class, and is understanding if assignments or quizzes are missed or need extensions. Would highly recommend.DS3000 2019-12-04 20:08:19 +0000 UTC
