we didnt really use our textbook but he gives a lot of handouts in class to show examples of good and bad writing. He was a very fair teacher and gave decent grades. He was really nice and his class was kinda easier than all my other ones, not because the work was easy, but cuz the teacher was really chill. TOTALLY would take one of his class againENG1 2011-09-03 11:10:45 +0000 UTC
his class is easy and i agree with whoever said if he didn't take attendance there would be no point in going. he tends to pick favorites and talk badly about his night school students, but other than that hes a cool guy and his class is pretty interesting.ENGFICT 2008-05-29 15:46:43 +0000 UTC
great professor. Very quirky, I kept seeing him in events outside of class this past year. Incredibly nice, the books were of a mixed range, but some of them were very good.ENG409 2008-04-09 15:23:05 +0000 UTC
Great professor, engages with the class, a funny and quirky guy. Always enjoyed going to his classes. He does one reading check and two-three papers. It's great because he allows for creative writing on the papers.ENG116 2007-05-04 13:36:00 +0000 UTC
I have taken numerous courses with him and they are all similar. Reading, 3 papers and a reading check. Class discussions are relaxed and he is a fairly easy grader. While he does tell some random stories about his life, he tries to make the literature interesting and genuinely seems to love teaching.ENG166 2006-11-19 12:50:22 +0000 UTC
Very interesting fellow. Class discussions were pretty engaging and the reading wasn't all that bad. He ran my English class the way I think they all should be run: grades based on *one* reading check, and 3 papers, and most of them you were able to do something creative as an alternative. Why can't more English course be like this?ENGU166 2006-10-23 23:51:56 +0000 UTC
Easy class but waste of time. Books were interesting & papers were easy. If he didn't take attendance there would be no need to go. Very odd mannerisms that make him funny to watch. Obviously a lonely man. Very rude and talks about his class of ESL students and is disrespectful.LITLAW 2005-12-16 00:12:26 +0000 UTC
Mr. Tutein is the best teacher I have ever had at NU. I have never actually wanted to go to a class before, but his was the exception. The material is good, his teaching style makes it stick, and his little side stories are fun and cute. This may seem a bit over the top, but once you take his class you will understand. Very Highly recommended.ENG 2005-11-01 01:24:43 +0000 UTC
Very interested in the subject matter at hand. He will, however, suffocate you with tangent stories about his life. Overall, this class was a welcomed breath of fresh air. Take Literature and Law if you feel like doing some light reading with a couple of papers around the edges.LITAMPLAW 2005-09-17 19:19:59 +0000 UTC
This guy is great - he's quirky and he's an easy grader. The class may drag at points but it's definitely worth takingENGLISHLIT2 2005-09-09 19:20:59 +0000 UTC
There is not enough good to be said about this man. His love of literature shines through at all times. It is equally matched by his love of teaching. He is absent-minded, quick to tell rediculous stories and completely enthralling in a lecture environmentMANY 2005-09-08 18:25:20 +0000 UTC
he's hilarious, makes class fun. loves his subject, so it gets you into the class, no matter what it is.JOYCE18THCENT 2005-05-14 23:18:43 +0000 UTC
Shares an office with DeRoche which can never be a bad thing. A strange guy, very organized though. Good options for paper writing, good novel choices but the class was not too intellectually stimulating. Read some Camus, but didn't get much new information about the topics.MODERNNOVEL 2005-04-23 13:52:17 +0000 UTC
Really intelligent. Had him last semester for this class. Definitely knows what he's talking about. Very funny at times.18THCENTURYLIT 2005-04-13 00:37:30 +0000 UTC
