Professor Boeckeler assumes we are all Shakespeare enthusiasts; forcing everyone to read only the tragedies isn't helpful. Her teaching and advice are vague, confusing and downright stress inducing.ENGL1400 2026-07-09 13:12:17 +0000 UTC
I don't think she is qualified to teach global lit. She may be good at Shakespeare but she does not know enough about global cultures to teach this class (she asked me how i speak English so well - I'm from an ex-British colony ) She is not a very caring professor in my experience and does not try to help. Unsupportive environment.ENGL1600 2026-05-05 17:53:49 +0000 UTC
Prof. Boeckeler is super nice and it's clear she has a true passion for Shakespeare and teaching. She's always fangirling over his writing and it's super wholesome. She's a tough grader, but her feedback is well thought out and she wants her students to do well. I highly recommend meeting with her (office hours) so she can help with your work.ENGL1400 2025-06-26 06:36:55 +0000 UTC
Appreciate the effort put into the syllabus and the structure. I do think she makes things unnecessarily hard thoughENGL1600 2026-04-08 01:52:36 +0000 UTC
I enjoyed Prof. Boeckeler's class, although it wasn't easy for an intro. class. She's a hard grader -- don't think you can get an A on a sloppy paper. She can be intimidating at times, but email her/go to her office hours and you'll feel more comfortable about class. You do a variety of readings, and it's a good class to see if ENGL is for you.ENGL1400 2021-10-18 00:22:59 +0000 UTC
wouldn't really recommend. Enjoy the guest lectures but the regular classes themselves are not exciting. a lot to read as well which can be tiring.ENGL1600 2026-04-05 13:57:53 +0000 UTC
Currently in a class taught by Professor Boeckeler and I strongly vote against taking her as your professor. She gives an unnecessary amount of busy work and both her and the TA are looking for ways to ding you and deduct points. It's not a good environment, I don't feel supported at all. It is disheartening and stressfulENGL1600 2026-04-03 19:16:27 +0000 UTC
I actually took Global Lit 1 (ENGL1700), but that wasn't an option listed on this site. Anyway, she was great. I'm not an English Major, so coming from someone without an English background, I think she is a really fair teacher, and her class is absolutely manageable if you actually show up and participate.ENGL1600 2025-04-06 17:21:52 +0000 UTC
Professor Boeckeler is NOT an easy grader, but nothing unusual for an English prof., her feedback is okay. She truly wants to make connections with her students and knew all of us by name relatively quick. Boeckeler is a really nice as a person with really interesting stories to share, you can tell she's passionate and excited to teach each lesson!ENGL1600 2025-03-27 15:11:02 +0000 UTC
Difficult to get an A in this class. Good feedback is hard to come by. Wouldn't take this class or this professor again. The only plus is that she is passionate and knowledgeable in the Shakespeare topic.ENGL1600 2025-02-25 03:24:52 +0000 UTC
Professor Boeckeler is great. I took her Shakespeare class, and her clear passion for the subject was really contagious. She was very considerate about being easy on students because of the pandemic, not as in assigning zero homework, but that she was very open to working with students who were having a hard time with the class. Very sweet, fun.ENGL1600 2021-01-15 21:54:11 +0000 UTC
she really just makes things harder than it has to be. wants students to learn, and therefore makes grading hard. it's really annoying. if you already like shakespeare, don't take her class.ENGL1600 2019-02-21 20:31:17 +0000 UTC
