Ferd is a great teacher and an expert at his field. However, progress reports has been hell as of fall 2025. Piazza is kind of a mess as well, and a hit or miss whether the teachers will respond to the questions or not. It is better to access his help during office hours or after class. the assignments were released on Friday and the material is fully taught by Wednesday or even Thursday, which makes us rush the assignment to done by Friday evening. the exams were decent, but the level of difficulty is way harder than the practice exams. very messy and I'm guessing the people that did pass somehow used ChatGPT to succeedCS3650 2025-12-17 00:33:41 +0000 UTC
I am currently in his CS2800 class. It is absolutely terrible. I have taken 12 classes at Northeastern University so far. This is, by far, the worst. Excellent lecturer, clearly an expert in topic and genuinely wants to teach you what he knows. Willing to take the time to go back and explain topics differently to make you understand. I am taking CS2800 with him, and it is his first time teaching it. He is unhelpful, there is no structure, the course website never gets updated, we use an IDE from the 1950s, and it is in ACL2, which is absolutely terrible.CS2500 2024-09-25 01:35:28 +0000 UTC

He's a nice guy but I'm giving a terrible rating because he has not returned grades in months and completes ghosts his students online. It's totally fine to be behind on grading but it's not okay to drop all communication to your students. I get what other people meant by he's wholesome since he tries being uplifting and encouraging. Lectures are basically him coding on screen how to do problems in Racket. He posts copies of his notes to Canvas which is nice. He's one of the professors though that will ask questions and wait a while for a response. Ferd is a fun professor, I had him for another class before & it was good. CS3650 just SUCKS. Assignments 2 months ago? Not graded. OHs? TAs constantly cancel w/out updating. Piazza? No responses. Ferd is one of my favorite Khoury professors so far. He is passionate and caring, lots of energy during lecture, and has a good sense of humor. He did a good job at conveying lecture material and explaining concepts. Take his advice and don't code in class. CS2500 is a course taught by Vesely and Shivers together, and man it is a rough time. The syllabus with REQUIRED READINGS was updated once with week 1's readings and never again. Lectures are difficult to follow without prior knowledge from other coding or the textbook. Homeworks are difficult and tests are super important.
