Prof Goshgarian is a great professor. He's passionate about literature and has a lot of insightful things to say about the material he assigns. The class is pretty easy as long as you read the books (quizzes are given for every book) and write A LOT for the papers - he "grades by the pound". This professor is a trainwreck. He is extremely bitter about not "making it" in the writing world and constantly brags about knowing "famous" people and how his book was going to be a movie until it got dropped for something more popular. The aviators! The leather jacket! The famous authors! His Modern Bestsellers class was the BEST. Lots of books you actually can get into, some of which I had read before, so I didn't even have to do anything. Got to meet a lot of great authors and just talk about what I felt about the books. His Science Fiction course was very enjoyable. The books we read were mostly interesting, a few more than others. The class goes really well when everyone has read the material (and participates) and can really drag when they haven't. This guy creeps me out a little and is REALLY into literature and deeper meanings of the writing because he is a writer. I understand he needs to teach that stuff but it is pretty boring. The books were great, u have to keep up with work b/c he gives quizzes, but he is def. captivating and the class was enjoyable. Lots of students like him. Class discussion great.
