This guy is the man! Requires you to read a lot of essays (sometimes being long and dry) but then will have really interesting and educating discussions on them. Brings a lot of humor into the class to keep everyone's attention. Not a lot of outside work except for reading and writing responses to what you read. Best college writing prof you can hope for. Sometimes what he says doesn't make sense, but if you ask, he'll explain it in another way. He grades fairly, and homework is graded on completion. Professor Richie is one of the best teachers at NU. He made an awful subject (also my weakest) into something bearable. I took the course in the summer, so it was probably more cramped than usual, but definitely passable. This class is awful...having said that, he is the only part of it that makes it livable. Realizes that the class isn't the most necessary thing in the world which is appreciated. Really great professor for college writing. Appeared to hate all freshman in the beginning of the semester, but really warmed up. Classes are interesting and discussions can be fun. The material can sometimes be dull but that comes with the territory.
