Dr. M is an amazing professor. I took his class during the Calculus 1 summer A. Examples were exactly the same, if not similar to the exam. I would recommend doing the homework before attending class. He's supportive, and makes class such a wonderful space to learn. He's explanations are excellent. I had him for Calc 2 where I hadn't done calc in a year so I was very rusty. He explains things very well and makes it easy to understand and definitely makes clear the expectations of tests quizzes and the final exam. u cant expect to do good w just light studying, it is a final cumulative exam. the class avg was 71.7 i studied a lot so i got a 87MATH1342 2025-05-13 18:11:36 +0000 UTC
Professor Marcotte is very friendly and a great person. However, I would not recommend him for Differential Equations. MATH 2341 has a departmental final and he simply did not cover large portions of the content that was on the final. My class average was a 68 compared to the department average of ~84. His exams are relatively "easy," but he does not prepare you for the final that is worth 40% of your grade. It is not worth the easy exam grade because the cram before the final is unreal. Professor Marcotte is good at making difficult concepts easy. He canceled class a few times during the semester, and he'd often show up 5-15 minutes late for class (it was an 8 am). This was my 2nd time taking a class from him, and I don't regret it. Jim's class is designed to prepare you well for the final. He gives weekly quizzes but will tell you what's on them ahead of time and will gladly help you if your struggling during the quiz. He's very good at explaining concepts, and takes things step by step. Usually would come late to class as well so be prepared for that. You will be having tests about every other week. This professor was very straightforward with students and generally did a strong job explaining business calculus concepts. His teaching style was clear and focused on making sure students understood the material. This Professor may be good at teaching calculus (according to the reviews), but he cannot teach 1365. He made it clear he was "forced" to teach this class and was unhelpful during office hours (which he only held once a week).
