Jason did not follow the syllabus he gave our class. It said on the syllabus we would have quizzes for textbook each week, and he drops the lowest five, but we only took 4 the entire semester. If you already know the course material well than take his class. But he was not in charge of homework so it was usually not connected to it, shorthand wrote on the board, and did not explain the foundations of concepts. Instead of a paper based theory class, this professor made it a coding-based class. Even worse, half the time, the auto-grader system he implements does not work and for some reason, he believes the semester revolves around his courses. Out of all my classes at Northeastern, this was by far the most unorganized. He is extremely condescending but also defensive when you ask him questions. I took CS4500 with Jason. It was the worst decision of my academic career at Northeastern University. Jason won't teach you anything in lectures and is rude and unforgiving in regards to grading and emailing. I don't know how he got his teaching license. CSAS 1114 Is a hard class and I think if you take it with a full schedule you are going to set yourself up for failure. Prof. Hemann very good at what he does and is willing to explain during class-time if your having issues. The outside tutoring hours are a must if you are struggling. Made TOC a programming class. Depending on your opinion on proofs, this could be good or bad. My semester had some major organizational issues, but these will likely be resolved in the future. Half of the assignments were trivial while the other half were unreasonably difficult. Every grade in the class is a group grade which was a horrible decision. I learned 5x more from a TA in our lab than from going to every lecture. The grades were based off an 'auto grader' written as it went which was very full of bugs. I would have dropped this class, specifically this professor if given the option. He is very passionate about the subject, but is a terrible professor. The only reason I passed is because of the tutoring option available, not the professor. I'm not sure how this "Professor" is still employed. Homeworks are consistently late and posted as drafts, forcing students to wait until last minute to start working or redo hours of work as the assignment changes through multiple draft states. Jason is strangely obsessed with grammar, harshly grades your writing, and makes his students read pages of confusing instructions. He often writes buggy code or proofs and expects his TA to fix it. i took him at shu, he is new this semester and is not too bad. he is unclear about teaching as in he does not explain things deeply for a beginner programming class. luckily he is a flexible grader. he is accessible outside class but he would advise the class to go to tutoring (which helps but he should explain it well enough as a prof already)CSAS1114 2023-01-20 22:05:48 +0000 UTC
