Prof Cullen is very knowledgeable and her passion is infectious. The course consists of a few papers and 3 exams, all of them were very straightforward. Be aware that you don't watch the films in class and therefore have to watch them on your own time.CLTR1260 2025-05-13 17:46:25 +0000 UTC

Professor Cullen is truly a great professor! The class is quite easy but very informative and I enjoyed every assignment we did. The homework consisted of watching anime, reading manga, and other pieces related to Japanese culture. She's an amazing teacher. I loved the class (Japanese pop culture) so much, we focused on many issues and interpretations in japanese history and modern culture. There's two short papers (2 pages ish) and two question sets (10-questions each, but you have to be concise), and one final research paper (5-6 pages). Professor Cullen is great! For CLTR1700, Cullen really knows her stuff and makes class engaging. Sometimes lectures are tied to hw assignments, but hw is really not much work. Prof Cullen is very nice and she really enjoys what she teaches. The lectures and homework are super interesting, I wasn't familiar with Japan's pop culture before taking the class. I got 100% on this course, very easy if you put in the effort. I don't know how difficult it usually is, but during the pandemic where exams are take-home I got 100% on both midterm and finals, although I did spend quite a bit of time on it. Prof Cullen is respected, knowledgeable, and kind-hearted. Her lectures are clear and very interesting, and I love her use of videos and real-life examples. Some of Japanese culture is weird but she handles everything very well. Professor Cullen gives off a "mom" vibe. She's clearly very knowledgeable about the content and going to lecture is required, but she always discusses things in a kind and interesting way. Prof Cullen's class was so fun and unique. I learned so much about Japan that I didn't know before, and she was so knowledgable and clearly loves what she teaches. Her tests are fair and the final presentation and paper was so fun!
