everyone I've spoken to says he's hilarious . i thought it might be me, so i tried warming up to him but i just can't. hes rude, bitter, and sarcastic. he also doesn't explain why you do anything in calc. all my friends that didn't take calc before were so confused as to whats a derivative. he just goes off on math rants that make him look crazy.CALCA 2015-04-20 22:58:29 +0000 UTC
At first, Dr. Russell might look and sound intimidating, but he's friendly, and offers help during offers hours. He is in fact, a tough grader, which makes any class especially Calc A (MAT 127) hard. Had him at TCNJ. Really great guy, he's super funny and sarcastic. He can be intimidating to a lot of people so people don't ask questions but I mean, it's college, don't be afraid to ask, he's super helpful when you do. Hes tough no lie. He doesnt go to northeastern , but works at TCNJ now. I adore his personality. He is funny and ridiculously down to earth. He does care about the students, idk why everyone says he doesnt. The class wasn't that hard but the professor was not good at all. Probably the worst teacher I have had in my life. Went on and on about what calculus is instead of teaching us how to solve every problem we would encounter. He claimed there was no algorithm for that. The only reason I hater this class was the professor. He knows absolutely no math what so ever. He spent 20 minutes trying to calculate the derivative of x squared. Someone asked him why he was making the calculation so complicated and he said that he was proving that the answer is 2x. In class he says, "Do you know what I am saying?" after everything. At one point I think he was obsessed with a book called The Comb and the Torus, but he never explained that reference. Jeremy is so incredibly down to earth and funny. Some people are just too uptight and have a stereotypical view of what a formal professor is supposed to be. I asked him when I was going to use calculus. "Now in regular calculus we differentiate functions. But you need Big Mac calculus, so you need to differentiate between the small, medium and large fries. In regular calculus, we study rates of change. These reviews are hilarious, mostly because he admitted to writing the awful ones himself based on ridiculous complaints he's gotten. He gives homework quizzes every day to keep you on your toes, which REALLY helps with the actual quizzes. He can be intimidating at first, but you learn it's not that serious and move on. I can't even describe him, you just need to meet him. He's sarcastic, rude and great! I really enjoyed his class. Didn't waste our time with long and laborious problems but with stuff that was actually useful. Made me understand the point of logic. Very funny, wore the same outfit every class, but didn't care when we asked about it.
