When I told Kimani I couldn't make it to class, he checked my course schedule and basically did a background check on which other classes I had and when. It was really invasive and out of the scope of what he's supposed to do. He is very strict with his attendance policy for no reason. Would highly not recommend. First non A in college and honestly it was my fault. If you do the class the way it is intended by Kimani, you will do well. You just need to on it 100% of the time. You can have a pop quiz any day, any time so you need to pay attention every minute of class. Do not take this class if you cant dedicate the time it needs. Taught myself outside of class but thats understandable and the topics are interesting. Grading policy is fair although labs are quite heavy (my tip: work with a partner). My main complaint is the TAs which are grad students who have very harsh grading and super unhelpful, they never know whats going on. Kimani offers long pseudo-monotonic lectures that can put one to sleep. He is funny, kind, and generally understanding, but I found the class hard to engage in. The class was easy. The lab was hard. Slides were good. Homeworks easy and quick. I attended three classes; one for the midterm, one for the second midterm, and another with my girlfriend to explain why I wasn't going to the class. Exams not bad. I found Kimani to be a very effective professor. He explained complex concepts in a relatively digestible and efficient manner, and always seemed to know exactly what he was talking about. Not that great, the TAs don't care and take off points from assignments & labs for no reason and the instructor never checks them. The exams are poorly written and professor assumes everyone knows what the content is. This guy is a legend. He explains the concepts very clearly -- if quickly -- but is always happy to answer your questions. He's also hilarious if you get to know him better. Kimani is a nice person and relatively cares about how you apply your knowledge in the industry if you ever considering pursuing EECE or EECS. However, he seems to rush through the content and lots of the course content is pretty much copied from UC Berkley (refer to RISC-V assembly lectures).
