Johnathan genuinely cares for all of his students. He makes the class feel welcome for all and does a great job providing feedback. He is strict in his attendance policies, but if you go to class and participate, you should do just fine. I love having Jonathan as a professor! He made class fun and engaging. There were a lot of readings but if you don't do it/skim it, you'll be fine. He's a harsh grader but is still pretty understanding. If you come to him with problems, he'll understand and try to come up with solutions. Professor Carr is a very arbitrarily hard grader. You must act in such a specific way that the enjoyment of acting just disappears; there is no room for creativity at all. It feels like you must be "on your game" every day, or you're bound to not succeed in this class. This class leaves little leeway to those that are introverted. Probably the friendliest and most approachable prof at NU. He really knows his stuff and wants you to improve as an actor. He tries his best to make the class fun, which I thought it really was. I love Jonathan. Yes, you have to give him a lot for you to give you a good grade, but you want to give him all that you can. Participation for this class is everything, but you can't be in an acting class without expecting to act. there are quizs based on two books and some really annoying papers. Sometimes the class is really boring, you are supposed to spend more than 12 hours each week on rehearsal. Unless you really like theatre, take a different elective. He demands participation and class discussions make me fall asleep. I love this professor! I have taken both art of theatre and the&soc and enjoyed both immensely. I'm a pharmacy major but it was a nice change of pace from the sciences. He's really passionate about the subject, discussions are thought provoking, and every class was worth going to. Attendance mandatory. Not hard if you actually do some work. Ridiculously hard grader. As a pharmacy major, I took this as an arts/humanities elective thinking it would be an easy A. It is far from an easy A. I had much harder classes that I didn't work nearly as hard in that I received an A for, including my core classes, but I worked my butt off for his class and I only got a B+. He does not only rate on how often a student participates, but also on how effective their comments are. I found this very demeaning because he was very rude when someone did not fully understand something. He is mad chill. Attendence is manditory and you cant be late. Acting is a smaller class, and he cracks jokes + pokes fun at students all the time. Awsome guy.
