Very kind, prepared, and helpful. I'd say one complaint people have about 5008 is that it covers a ton of concepts, which I agree with, but that's not really the profs fault I think that's the nature of the course / align program. Mike is a fantastic professor. I had him for programming in C++ and his passion for the subject truly rubs off on you. I can't stress just how many awesome resources he sends to students. Mike's class is very well organized with ample resources. His lectures & teaching ability is average, but I found I learnt a lot through his labs/assignments. But be prepared to do a lot of reading on your own as his lectures are way too basic compared to the difficulty level of assignments. Mike comes from game industry so is not quite an expert in computer system. The course covers a lot of knowledge but does not go deep. He gives little instruction in lectures that relates to homework, be ready to google or go to office hour. His final quiz not hoard, just go through the study guide carefully. Clearly professor Mike has put in a ton of effort to make the course material really cutting edge. Apart from performance engineering, this course also aims to teach you how to read/write research papers. He assigns both a homework and a lab every week so there is a ton of work for the class but it all helps cement understanding of the material. At the beginning I had to use a lot of Google but once I started reaching out for help Mike was very accommodating and ensured I had all the knowledge I needed.
