Tough grader and a ton of proofs. Prereq is linalg but there are a ton of proofs and number theory stuff in the second half. First half is simple, outdated ciphers, second half is more applicable, but there isn't any coding/practical use stuff. Not a lot to go off of for exams. Nice professor, really nice person if you go to office hours and she explains them carefully and clearly. Introduces proofs which are very important and helps a lot in further classes. Veliche is a sweet lady and all, but she teaches old-fashioned with a whiteboard and while half of the class is fighting demons trying to copy down notes, she mumbles to herself proofs that no one understands. this course is too proof-heavy which means self-studying and practicing is a must to get a good grade. This class (regardless of professor) is really tough. However, Prof. Veliche does her best to teach you all the material clearly. Extremely welcoming & helpful in office hours. At the end of the semester she gives extra points for overall attendance and homework (asks you show her all you have done in the semester). AVOID! The only redeeming quality about this professor is her in class problems. For tests, students are given no information. I mean no practice problems, no information on topics, unknown number of questions, etc. On top of that the tests seem to contain at least 1 random question. I have never done so bad in a math class. This class was conducted poorly due to the professor's old fashion teaching and only writing on the whiteboard. The entire class time is spent frantically copying down notes on the board instead of understanding concepts. She's a very nice woman who is always willing to help. That being said, she is not the best teacher. She sometimes lacks understanding of the material, and students often correct her in class. (MATH 2331) Overall good professor and clear lectures. There is optional homework but if you want an A you should definitely do it. I managed to get a B without really studying at all and just reviewing before exams, you just need to know how to apply formulas.
