Good professor. The class was very foundational in terms of concepts and current developments in the CS world, so the professor led good discussions in class when we covered research papers.CS3950 2024-04-30 04:05:18 +0000 UTC
Good research background, but terrible teacher! Can't asses what students understand and what they can't! Concentrates more on very basic things and goes in too deep on statistics. Specifically, we learnt linear regression for half the semester and everything else was rushed into in the second half! Run away!CS6140 2021-11-24 17:29:51 +0000 UTC
I think this course is worthy of attending. Prof. Vitek emphasizes more on rationale behind the models (probably requiring lots of math which is why some found it difficult) rather than simply use them. Just the contents in exam can be scattered. You may need to cover every trivial thing mentioned in lectures to gain a high mark.DS5220 2019-01-11 14:27:55 +0000 UTC
Although the professor has excellent knowledge, the material is presented without much structure, and course organization is chaotic at best. With three exams, homework, and final projects, the course load is huge, and the grading is very strict. Would not recommend any of Prof. Vitek's courses.CS7295 2018-05-01 14:53:24 +0000 UTC
The course was well designed and laid an emphasis on teaching fundamental thoroughly instead of jumping on the bandwagon of the most popular machine learning methods. Assignments were designed to test theoretical understanding of concepts taught during the week. I recommend this course to anybody with a good foundation in linearalgebra+probabilityCS6140 2017-11-30 18:27:17 +0000 UTC
Worst professor for Machine Learning. Assignments had nothing to do with the exams. Did not put much thought into structuring the course nor teaches well. Does not prepare you for exams in an exhaustive course like Machine Learning. Exams did not test the students knowledge on the topic. Don't waste your time & money with this professor.CS6140 2017-09-01 01:22:53 +0000 UTC
I think she is the worst professor I have got at NU. There is no coherence between what has been taught in the class, assignments and exams. I found it really difficult to understand her in the class and most of my peers feel the sameCS6140 2017-05-30 21:58:15 +0000 UTC
