If you don't like theory heavy classes don't take Professor Alvarez (and maybe math isn't for you). If you show up to class and pay attention, and do the group homework assignments that he gives every class you'll be fine. He's a fair grader and clearly knows the material extremely well. His teaching style is just bad. He just throws theorems at you and expect you to understand it. His teaching style is just a bunch of notations without real explanations.
