Foundations of AI required a lot of effort. It was worth it because participation and preparation were extremely helpful as they helped the professor gauge our overall understanding. Dr Saripalli is very passionate about the subject matter and caring toward the students. The lectures, homework and exams are all focused on facilitating student learning. There's quite a bit of reading, and the course touches on many different topics and tools. I took Fundamentals of computer networking under professor Saripalli. The classes were well organised and the professor was able to clarify any questions we have even if its out of textbook content. It is not an easy class as there were lots of readings, coding exercises, and quizzes but through that I learnt a lot. Professor Prasad is a nice person to work with. Worst class I took at NU. Prof reads straight from text and calls it lecture, assignments are plagiarized from student projects at UCB. Virtually impossible to reach professor. Despite the positive reviews here, note that Saripalli has a rating of 2.8/5.0 (dept mean=4.3/5.0) on TRACE, NU's internal review board. All the negative reviews are spot on. I never leave reviews on professors, but making an exception as he is the worst professor I have had over the course of 4 years of undergrad + 2 years of grad. I really enjoyed taking cs5100 the foundations of artificial intelligence course. The professor is really nice in explaining everything clearly to the students, making the concepts more intuitive. Worst professor experience! Uses Paint for explanations, promised 2 weeks for an assignment, then gave only 5 days. Just shows textbook pages while teaching. Wouldn't take his course again, even for free. Surprising for a reputable university like Northeastern to have such low-quality professors.. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic professor! Have taken CS5100 FAI in Spring 2022 and it was a really good learning experience for me personally. It was an online class and attendance was not mandatory, programming assignments were lengthy but you got to learn a lot! Do not take this class if you want clarity on due dates or a structured course. Assignments were given on a whim and you would just see that a project has been assigned and is due in 10 days. Awful class. Lectures are basically read-alouds from the textbook, while assignments are mostly ripped from 8-year old MOOCs. To give you an idea of the quality, lecture attendance has dropped off more than 60% over half a semester. I am now halfway through the course and only 1/3rd of my work has received feedback. The professor is very nice, he gives us examples in class and is eager to help students who are having trouble with their studies. Also, the assignments are graded in detail.
