This course and Prof. Platt is greatCS5335 2024-12-12 23:08:35 +0000 UTC
Prof. Platt is a nice guy and his explanations are thorough and generally easy to understand. However, he's also a bit boring, low energy, and long-winded. I thought the course did a good job communicating the fundamentals, but he could have expressed more enthusiasm about the material and provided insight into its importance.CS5100 2022-12-09 16:56:30 +0000 UTC
He seemed to making it up along the way. Was expecting to learn about robotics not ML. The professor liked talking about himself and his lab more than actual rigorous material. Platt is an outsider who only understands ML at a high level. Would not trust him to answer any under-the-hood questions. I paid way too much to learn way too little.CS5335 2023-04-04 15:14:24 +0000 UTC
Prof. Platt just didn't seem to care at all about this class. He would regularly react to lecture slides as if he had never seen them before, and often wouldn't know which questions are even on the homework. I think it's saying something when attendance is "mandatory", but the term ended with only ~15 students bothering to attend in person.CS5100 2022-12-01 17:38:59 +0000 UTC
Great professor overall!!CS5335 2017-03-01 10:59:34 +0000 UTC
Dr. Platt really knows his stuff but sometimes the lectures can be a little overwhelming when you get to the second half of the course. Be ready to ask a lot of questions and a lot of googling to supplement the reading and lecture. Do all of the extra credit, you will need it and double check the TAs. They get a lot of autonomy but can miss a lot.CS5100 2022-05-10 13:31:08 +0000 UTC
I'll blame the course structure more than the professor.. a waste of 4 credits.CS5100 2022-04-19 03:27:10 +0000 UTC
