Professor Sloan reads off slideshows every lecture, and you'll have to learn code outside of class or going to the TA's. The lectures are insanely boring but showing up for the attendance grade bump was nice. The quizzes/exams were all multiple choice as well, but a ton of word play.CS2100 2026-01-12 03:11:11 +0000 UTC
Extremely boring lectures; homework+labs are borderline a whole other class since the homework and lectures are completely unrelated. Grading is lenient, she is nice and answers questions, but I've taught myself pretty much everything from reading notes.CS2510 2025-11-20 19:30:23 +0000 UTC
Despite official documentation of my mental health condition, Professor Sloan did not provide any support, saying "unfortunately, this is my policy..." and "I do not provide extensions..." This added undue stress for me throughout the semester. She is condescending and often rushes through important content towards the end of class. Terrible.CS4100 2025-04-01 16:33:02 +0000 UTC
Rose Sloan is not bad. Rose Sloan is not good. Rose Sloan is just Rose Sloan. Rose Sloan just "is". She merely "exists". She makes jokes that are a decent attempt at humor, I appreciate the effort. On the more positive side, she is quite responsive to emails and gave me extensions for assignments so this is a positive and helpful side of her.CS2100 2026-01-08 06:22:10 +0000 UTC
Taking the class right now finishing off semester - Lectures are simple, quizzes are simple. Does not prepare you for the homework, TAs in lab carry her. Attendance is mandatory, but ain't no one want to show up for those long and tedious classes.CS2510 2025-11-19 16:27:57 +0000 UTC
No practice problems. Even for the midterm, she gave one singular practice problem, and for the final: absolutely nothing. In addition to that, the homework was completely irrelevant to what we were learning. She had never once even shown us anything in Python but then gave us a very, very difficult assignment to do.CS4100 2024-12-12 02:48:36 +0000 UTC
Did I learn anything from her this year? No. I didn't. She didn't respond to my emails the first two week of class about issues with submitting homework. Homeworks are a mess and tbh hard to understand. Awkward and randomly giggles to herself during lecture and overall just doesn't teach. Great slide show reader though.CS2100 2025-12-13 05:45:03 +0000 UTC
Never show any support to me despite of my official documented mental health situation. Never give any extensions or clear guide lines. Don't take her classes.CS2510 2025-05-24 21:00:13 +0000 UTC
This is a pretty difficult class that is really lecture heavy, so I don't blame Prof. Sloan for it being a little bit boring. However, academically she does a great job with this course. Really knowledgable and also empathetic with students which made for a positive experience for 4100.CS4100 2024-12-04 21:31:06 +0000 UTC
I don't think I've ever encountered a professor that reads off the slides as much as Rose Sloan does. She absolutely doesn't teach at all. She'll also just randomly awkwardly start laughing at her code. The grading system in this class is just messed up and has no space for leniency. Homework is terribly made and doesn't even work 99% of the time.CS2100 2025-12-12 00:45:28 +0000 UTC
She doesn't really know what she's doing imo... She would often use things in lectures that the syllabus said we are banned from using on HWs and tests. Learned more from my own trial and error and TAsCS2510 2025-04-28 20:04:29 +0000 UTC
Lectures were boring but attendance is mandatory. The hw was okay at best. Not impossible, but definitely needed to put in a lot of time. The quizzes were much harder than practice, though.CS2100 2025-12-11 03:43:08 +0000 UTC
Not the worst out there but can't specifically recommend. Lectures were hard to follow and her tests would often just not pass and she would ignore it and move on. Going to lectures definitely did help, but she can be hard to follow.CS2510 2025-04-22 17:47:16 +0000 UTC
homework is harder but the class is pretty easy, maybe it is the new cirriculum, but it kinda sets you up to do good, theres four quizzes, and they are pretty easyCS2100 2025-12-10 00:20:00 +0000 UTC
Went to most of the lectures, I would'nt say it's the worst, but it's definitely not so great. Can't really follow what she's talking about most of the time. Homework extra credits are what saved my graded to an A. Tests aren't easy but that's just a Fundies thing. Not super helpful and don't reply to email according to friends.CS2510 2025-04-22 01:51:46 +0000 UTC
