Don't take the negative reviews on here seriously. Professor Silvio is a solid professor and clearly well-informed in the field of NLP. Grading criteria was clear & there is no final. Midterm was crazy hard but he curves it. HW (3 of them) and labs aren't bad, and there is a final project that you get a bunch of time for. Highly recommended!CS6120 2025-12-12 07:46:22 +0000 UTC
This was my first time coding and I think he was understandable. I am glad he actually did the notes with the class because as ds classes go on it is just like presentation rather than working it out.DS2000 2024-11-22 15:44:34 +0000 UTC
Lectures are hard to follow and useless. If you don't read the textbook it's impossible to understand anything in the lecture. The lectures have no structure at all and I felt lost in every lecture. Professor cannot explain things very well. This class kinda killed my interest in NLP.CS6120 2022-11-04 00:19:08 +0000 UTC
Please button up your shirt, there was like 5 buttons unbuttoned.DS2000 2024-09-28 00:36:19 +0000 UTC
Honestly, every time you go to class you will leave feeling more confused than you previously did going into class. If you are new to coding you will definitely need to buckle up for one hell of a ride, he drops the lowest grade for homework. I once asked for help after lecture and it was useless.DS2000 2023-12-30 03:48:49 +0000 UTC
Not good at explaining things. Not accommodating in large lectures for students who sit in the back and cannot see the board. Unhelpful or "idk" answers to questions. Poor, inefficient use of class time. Was supposed to be an introductory DS course but he made me feel so lost and completely steered me away from future DS/coding courses.DS2000 2023-12-08 05:22:03 +0000 UTC
Amir is a decent man with a wry sense of humor that comes in spontaneous "sparks" which can brighten otherwise mundane lectures. He explains concepts with necessary analogies satisfactorily that may become rushed at times, but note that he's always willing to elaborate, which is why asking questions is essential in his 100+ person lectures.DS2000 2023-12-01 20:54:38 +0000 UTC
