Took this class in Spring 2022. This professor's workload was very hard to manage considering it's a first-year writing course. The worst part is that while reading MLK's Letter From Birmingham Jail aloud to the class, she read the n-word (hard R)...out loud. She didn't repeat it after that but once was enough. Do not take this professor's class.ENGW1111 2024-12-29 05:18:45 +0000 UTC
Professor Spilecki made College Writing an interesting experience. She's very acoomodating, and doesn't every really get upset with the class. The workload is very light for a college writing class, and the workshops are very helpful. As long as you show up and write all the papers on the day they're do, you'll do fine in this class.ENGU111 2008-12-11 15:06:27 +0000 UTC
Realistically first-year writing should not be a very difficult class, but she gives us an essay due every week, and she's a tough grader. If you are taking a first-year writing course I highly recommend not taking it with her.ENGW1111 2024-12-19 21:48:33 +0000 UTC
I initially found her intimidating, as the first few weeks we were bombarded with papers due every week. Got easier as the semester progressed and her teaching style grew on me. Holds workshop sessions before the final paper is due, so make sure you have a complete draft ready so that you get her feedback before submitting the final version.ENGW1111 2024-12-02 20:54:42 +0000 UTC
She is an amazing professor and is hilarious too. You need to put in effort to get an A but she cares a lot about her students and improving their writing skills. There's always a workshop before a writing assignment is due so make sure to have it done before the workshop so she can give you feedback before you turn in the final draftENGW1111 2024-11-23 18:00:30 +0000 UTC
Be ready to have a 1250-1500 word essay due every week. The guidelines are ridiculous, the class is corny and boring, and discusses topics nonimportant to real-world issues. Every time a paper was submitted there was something new wrong with it, be prepared to spend 6+ hours a week on her assignment and writing combined. Overall bad experience.ENGW1111 2024-10-07 18:11:58 +0000 UTC
Nice professor, often let us out of class early. Definitely helps you grow your writing skills and the essays are fun to write because she gives good prompts.ENGW1111 2023-11-29 16:14:34 +0000 UTC
Prof Spilecki was a great advanced writing professor. She assigned lots of reading, but was very fair on grading. At times expectations were confusing, and I was not sure what we were supposed to be doing. Take advantage of the peer review time and be prepared for the due dates to creep up on you!ENGW1111 2023-04-17 01:43:40 +0000 UTC
If you are only taking writing to get the credit DO NOT TAKE HER IT WILL BE YOUR BIGGEST REGRET. The papers are due every week and end up being 15-20 pages. She is also the most unorganized teacher I have ever had it's awful. She redid the syllabus so many times because the due dates were wrong. Plus its so much work to get an A.ENGW1111 2022-05-04 20:58:43 +0000 UTC
There is a reading due every class and a paper due almost every week which were interesting. She wants to see her students succeed and is passionate about writing but you have to work for your grade but she is easily accessible outside of class. She is also pretty lenient with deadlines but canvas does not match what she assigns in class.ENGW1111 2022-04-22 23:15:00 +0000 UTC
Run away. I had to take her because I had no other option. Tough grader and the classes are really boring. Canvas is completely messed up and no clear instructions on due dates.ENGW1111 2022-04-22 06:13:01 +0000 UTC
Compared to other first year writing classes it is much more difficult and you have to really work for your grade. Most of the time spent in class is spent "workshopping" where we come to class and sit in silence while we are supposed to work on our papers.ENGW1111 2022-04-06 04:41:22 +0000 UTC
Professor Spilecki was nice and great at keeping the class engaged. The class itself was not a breeze as there was a paper due almost every week, but the prompts keep the class interesting. Also super flexible with deadlines.ENGW1111 2022-02-08 21:50:29 +0000 UTC
Had her for First-Year Writing and I loved her class. You write a lot, but the essay prompts are super interesting and allow for a lot of creative freedom. She's also a lenient grader and really just cares that you try your best to become a better writer. Another bonus: if she gets through her lesson plan early, she lets you out early, no busyworkENGW1111 2021-12-13 05:51:25 +0000 UTC
