I learned a lot because of Prof. Wahl. He was a great teacher, and explained things well. He gave plenty of examples, and overall, lectures were very well run. The only issue was that reaching him outside of class was difficult, and he was often rude/condescending about questions. I do think he was a nice guy, just had a bit of an ego.CS2500 2021-05-03 04:51:18 +0000 UTC
It might seem like he's a bit rude at first, but Wahl really cares about students and making sure they understand what he's teaching. He's very accessible outside of class and often takes extra time to go to great lengths to clear up confusing content. Fair grader but makes you work for it - definitely one of the better profs I've had.CS3800 2020-06-01 14:08:39 +0000 UTC
He puts in a lot of effort for this course. From grading, to replying on Piazza, to office hours, you name it and he is always there. Great Prof.CS2800 2015-03-04 02:05:49 +0000 UTC
he's very unclear, and when you don't understand something he makes you feel stupid and doesn't even explain it. For our first exam he introduced new material and expected us to just teach ourselves within a 1 hour time frame. he also assigns us extra credit that is so hard that no one can figure it out and then questions why no one did it...CS1800 2012-11-07 18:50:16 +0000 UTC
Thomas Wahl is a good teacher. His lectures were clear and he is very helpful in office hours. My only complaint is that he's a bit rude and very anal. He likes things done his way, and doesn't have room in his head for other approaches. While not outright mean, he is frequently passive aggressive in class. In sum, not terrible, but not the best.CS2500 2021-04-15 15:00:29 +0000 UTC
The grading is somewhat tough as homeworks are graded out of 20 points, but Thomas Wahl is a great professor who is clearly passionate about theory of computation and has a very deep understanding. Very animated and engaging in lectures, makes it hard to fall asleep.CS3800 2019-10-30 00:49:29 +0000 UTC
I did logic and comp with prof. Thomas, and did not know what to expect. I was very shocked. He is a great professor, extremely willing to help during office hours, and his explanation is clear and simple. I'm not sure what everyone's on about. Maybe he changed his method. I have to say that's not just my opinion. Most of my class thought the sameCS2800 2014-08-27 09:19:33 +0000 UTC
Everyone is trying to scare people less about comp sci, but if you're not absolutely sure it's what you want to do/have some background knowledge, don't take his course. He's super rude, bad at teaching (he can't explain his own material), and an incredibly harsh grader. The CS major is still working out its teaching methods, and it shows.CS2500 2021-04-15 07:09:47 +0000 UTC
First let me preface this with the fact that I received a B+ in this class, so this is no an angry rant brought on by a failing grade. Prof. Wahl is the worst of the worst. Prof. Wahl is demeaning and confusing. He "motivates" his students through insults, and provides absolutely no assistance outside of class. AVOID HIS CLASS AT ALL COST!!CS2800 2013-08-08 12:38:07 +0000 UTC
A lot of these ratings seem relatively old, and I felt that I should leave a more recent review of him. The Professor Wahl I had for CS2500 was kind and very caring. He was always willing to help and discuss topics with me that often went beyond on the course. It was not at all hard for me to meet with him out of class too.CS2500 2019-06-07 20:11:42 +0000 UTC
He is a nice guy and overall a good professor. His reactions to your answers in class can make you feel insecure so that participation in the class at some point reduced itself to only 10 out of the 100 students. Still, he is willing to explain stuff over again if you ask him to.CS2500 2018-12-13 21:19:07 +0000 UTC
