I had him in Spring 2011. I am graduating now and I still think Professor Rocchio was one of the best professors, if not the best, I have ever had at NU -and definitely in the COMM department. He was really hard and quite aggressive, but this forced us as students to really learn a lot. Anyone genuinely interested in media needs to take his course.COMM1220 2013-04-29 21:21:42 +0000 UTC
I took New Media Culture as well as Media, Culture, and Society with Professor Rocchio. I have graduated and am currently the Marketing Director for the Better Business Bureau. I IMPLORE anyone taking his class to listen up and use it. I maintain his classes were the most useful to my actual career. He's tough but it's so worth it in the end.MED202 2011-12-06 15:38:06 +0000 UTC
I have NO idea what all of these ppl are talking about! Prof Rocchio is fantastic. Yes, he's hard but what's wrong with that? Work hard and you'll learn alot. He's very helpful and compassionate. I learned so much in this class compared to other film classes. International cinema @ NU is a joke but Rocchio is GREAT!!!CLTR1290 2010-04-20 22:14:03 +0000 UTC
There is only one reason to dislike this class: not wanting to work hard. He is cocky, but that is his personality. He seems condescending, but if you actually buy into that then you're an idiot. hes just trying to make the class interesting. its a difficult class, but believe me, you will want to impress this guy. and youll do better because of itCMN220 2008-11-25 22:02:36 +0000 UTC
very energetic; a bit cynical; expects students to work hard; wants students to think; you will feel lost in the first half of the semester because he requires critical thinking; doesn't put up information or assignment on his website or blackboard, and that makes you attend every lesson, otherwise you will miss muchCMNU220 2007-05-08 12:26:56 +0000 UTC
Worst class ever! Only made three speeches, hardly ever discussed anything to do with public speaking! Not a fun class to have at 8 am either! Never really knew what the hell he was asking and he usually bsed for an hour before finally teaching.PUBSPEAKING 2005-12-14 15:56:51 +0000 UTC
Do not take this class unless you're prepared to dedicate your life to it, but well worth the experience. Class is graded mostly on live productions. Utilize Chris for help with lighting. Realize this is what production is like, and you'll walk away very prepared to work in a real TV studio. He has some weird theories on the media though. Good luckCMNU520 2005-12-13 10:41:28 +0000 UTC
he is very tough, but will help you learn. I like his teaching method. you just have to learn to be able to tell when he is being sarcastic or not because he incorporates it into his teaching. his teaching is effective, but if you are looking for an easy way out then find another professor.PUBLICSPEAKING 2005-10-26 19:48:12 +0000 UTC
He has a different teaching style than most NU profs, but once you get to know it, you can learn A LOT! I definintely recommend Rocchio's courses if you are out to learn something in college. great lecturer, engaging.CMNU921 2005-06-30 11:45:40 +0000 UTC
he has an attitude problem. he wants the class to answer the question but everyone is affaid to answer because he grills you on why you said that. he looks at you like your an idiot and hes smarter. no matter what you write on his exams your wrong. by the way he wrote the book for the class. see a pattern here?RACISMANDMEDI 2005-06-16 15:35:56 +0000 UTC
this is the worst class i've ever taken. he is extremely confusing, tangent prone, and at times down right mean. Good sense of humor and very smart, but just very unorganizedNEWMEDIACULTU 2005-04-26 21:37:22 +0000 UTC
He comes off as a complete jerk, and it doesn't get any better throughout the course. He is confusing and does not give you assignments ahead of time. If you email him after missing class he will not give you the assignment. He was enthusiastic, but I still didn't enjoy the class very much.CMN 2005-01-07 20:56:35 +0000 UTC
He definietly comes across as a real jerk in the first few classes, and seems to simply shuts down students' responses and seemds to go around in circles, however, by the end of class, he will make an incredible point, and wrap everything up that he is saying in the last give minutes of class.COLLEGEINTRO 2004-11-24 09:43:48 +0000 UTC
He is a little bit of a jerk at first but I think it is just a scare tactic. I think he makes no sense and you have to guess what the hel* he is talking about.COLLEGEIN 2004-10-26 17:28:16 +0000 UTC
Rocchio is tough but fair. I learned A LOT from him. If you are actually into learning and like an animated, sarcastic type prof, try out Rocchio, he's cool once you get to know him.CMNU622 2004-06-21 18:16:10 +0000 UTC
