Please try everything in your power to not have this professor she speaks with such a strong accent so you can barely understand what shes saying. 2nd, she has a separate grader which is fine but whats not fine is that the graders have no idea what the requirements for the assignment is so they give out false grades! Yan was not a good professor. She was a new teacher and it was incredibly evident to the entire class, as she seemed disorganized and erratic. Her lectures were difficult to understand, partially because of her accent bust mostly because she was hard to follow. If you've never taken Calc DON'T take this professor. New teacher here. Oftentimes she just writes definitions on the board and makes simple concepts seem complicated. I have done well in this class because I have already taken calculus in hs, but I would otherwise be doing very poorly. We have quizzes almost every week, but optional hw. Avoid this professor if you've never taken calculus before because you will struggle. Her lectures are confusing and sometimes students correct her for making mistakes. She doesn't answer questions clearly and spends class time writing out textbook definitions and word problems on the board. If you have never taken calculus 1, you need to prepare yourself. She goes over the material extremely quickly and does not really show individualized attention.
