She likes to pick on people and call you out in front of the entire class, but don't take anything personal. Every grade you receive will kind of feel random, but as long as you put effort in and do the homework (all mc from the textbook), you will most likely get a decent grade. Alma is VERY serious about deaf culture. You need to put 100% into her class or else you will not succeed. For ASL1, it can define toy be hard adjusting to a deaf professor but I think it helps with learning sign language faster. ALMA IS THE BEST! Her ASL class is completely immersive, so you get the best learning experience. She is funny, kind, and adorable; you genuinely learn so much in one semester. The complete immersion takes a bit to get used to, but it's great. Homework is pretty easy, but be prepared to record yourself. Alma is an incredible professor! If you had her for ASL 1 I HIGHLY recommend taking her classes again. Alma was the best professor I have ever had! She would always take extra time to repeat something even if only one person didn't fully understand. The last day of class she went around and gave everyone hugs which made me start tearing up. I would 100% recommend taking Alma's class! Entire class is in ASL, pretty much understands you as well as you understand her...which is not so much. Sets extremely high standards for students, which are rarely met by anyone in the class. Alma is a great professor! Her class is structured in a way you can fully immerse yourself in Deaf culture, and you have no other choice but to learn.
