This class required me to do more homework than all of my other classes combined. The TAs take weeks to get back and a few more weeks to grade assignments. But an A- or above is very attainable, even if you put in the bare minimum effort. Find a better NU-path class. Take this only if you have to.MUSC1001 2026-02-19 19:03:53 +0000 UTC
There is very little work for this class, and the professor is very engaging. I wish the class were smaller, but the content is interesting.MUSC1001 2026-01-14 15:40:33 +0000 UTC
85% of the class takes this course to fulfill a NU-path, and I genuinely had more homework and projects for this class than my STEM requirements. Attendance is MANDATORY even though it is a massive lecture hall, and don't even get me started about the TAs.MUSC1001 2025-12-11 18:01:19 +0000 UTC
I genuinely cannot stand this professor with all of my being. You know those people who become professors just to hear themselves talk? That's him. He thinks he's the next coming of christ and that he's the smartest person to ever exist. PAINFULMUSC1001 2025-12-11 17:59:37 +0000 UTC
The class is very interesting, easy and taught well, pretty much an easy A but the way its set up sucks. no contact with the teacher.MUSC1001 2025-12-10 07:54:32 +0000 UTC
Professor doesn't grade assignments himself so your entire grade rests upon his TA's which are horrible and don't give constructive feedback and are unreachable. Insane given the amount of projects we have and don't receive feedback at all.MUSC1001 2025-11-03 01:24:49 +0000 UTC
Free A for the MUSC1001 class. Midterm was open note, 17 MCQ. Doesnt mind you being on your laptop in class, and only takes attendance 1/3 of the time. Pretty much just show up and you will get an AMUSC1001 2025-10-23 17:05:08 +0000 UTC
It is our third week, and we're already getting grades that we don't have feedback on. I got a 72% from a module assignment, and the TA is unresponsive. Most of us are not interested in or in love with music; we are mainly STEM majors trying to have ONE easy course and this professor is just being unnecessarily complicated, giving a heavy workload.MUSC1001 2025-09-25 07:38:48 +0000 UTC
I have him right now and I already hate it. He is just one of those bad professorsMUSC1001 2025-09-18 21:19:45 +0000 UTC
Professor Gutierrez acknowledges that this is just a required course to fulfill NEU Path. However, the workload is the equivalent of high-level music major classes. The class itself isn't hard; it's just immensely time-consuming, which doesn't help if you're in a hard major like STEM. The grade breakdown is insane, with multiple projects.MUSC1001 2025-09-05 20:14:13 +0000 UTC
I took this class asynchronously, but it was very work-intensive. There were many group discussions, and the projects were pretty time-consuming. There is also no communication with prof, you can only contact the TA's which I thought was weird.MUSC1001 2025-08-18 22:27:48 +0000 UTC
The material is easy and it would be more straightforward if all the articles weren't so pretentious and pseudo-sophisticated. The course flow is so confusing. Module 2 is due before module 1, module 4 (big project) is due before module 3. I don't know if it's purposeful or a mistake but it's so confusing to follow.MUSC1001 2025-05-15 07:34:13 +0000 UTC
I took him summer 2, I didn't interact with him much but most of the assignments are easily although they get progressively more annoying as the semester goes on, but they are never terrible. He isn't too tough with grading either.MUSC1001 2025-03-16 19:15:22 +0000 UTC
the class was okay i took it summer 2, definitely not just an easy a class but not difficult or anything, but this guy wrongly accused me of using ai and wouldn't believe any evidence i showed, not even edit history in the doc i wrote it in. him and the ta basically called me a liar and told me to learn to write betterMUSC1001 2024-12-01 18:12:05 +0000 UTC
Professor Gutierrez is hit or miss. He is a very nice guy but as a professor is extremely arrogant and speaks in a condescending tone with fancy language to make himself sound smarter. He is an easy grader thoughMUSC1001 2024-10-24 21:01:43 +0000 UTC
