Prof Randall is def. the worst professor I've had at NEU. I dreaded her class each morning (it was on Zoom, FYI), for she made condescending comments, judged students for getting questions wrong, yelled for no reason, etc. She even interrupted students during final presentations and criticized them in front of everyone. I don't have her but I'm watching a guest lecture on Linguistics today, and she's been interrupting the speaker and trying to devalue the work she's presenting. For the past 5 minutes the speaker has had to copy and paste the works she's citing into the chat for Janet. Prof. Randall is by far the worst professor I have ever had. She is incredibly rude and tone-deaf. She wastes everyone's time by spending forever on topics that could be gone over with a single sentence, and never ends class on time (and then blames the students for it). Kind of on the strict side, but as long as you participate she will probably like you. She still gives me bad vibes sometimes though. Assignments and exams are pretty easy if you pay attention. Janet came to my class to administer her research and was INCREDIBLY RUDE. Throughout her visit, she consistently called the professor the wrong name ( a professor who devoted an entire class period to Janet's research). If you haven't taken Intro. to Linguistics with Sarah Hulsey, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. You need to have some sort of linguistic background before you even think about taking this class (even if you're only doing it to fill Math/Analytical 2). Great teacher. Dry sense of humor. Good at keeping class on track, despite our wildest tangents. Very fair, *really* makes you think about the material. I registered just to post on her. She made me feel awful and ruined my whole exp. at NU. I asked her for help in a difficult class, she told me to just study harder. She was my advisor and she was awful- downright mean and rude. I had Randall in 1993 before this site existed and I just had to see what current students think of her. Back then, she was mean, rude and unprofessional. Apparently, we share the same unfortunate experience. She is beyond awful. A perfect example of how tenure can be abused and should probably be done away with. She is a terrible snobby woman, completely unhelpful and unclear. Wastes class time with meaningless group work, blames problems on students, her teaching style is very very backward and when approached with questions is not at all helpful. Avoid her classes.
