Unfair grading. Participate multiple times every single class and you still get a 60%, tanking your grade and he refuses to ever change his grading. Tries to cold call students who already regularly participate. Grades horribly on regular essays and exams. Repeats posted slides in his lectures. Probably the harshest grader in existence. Median for his essays is like a 70. You can go to class every single day and participate and he will still give you a 60 on participation (which is 15% of the grade btw). Professor Vaulont is a great professor. He is extremely knowledgable of what he is talking about. He expects a good amount of participation, usually in group activities, but they are interesting. Professor Vaulont is a very caring, passionate professor, but his rubric for his essays are very difficult. He gives you feedback, but it seems very open-ended on a lot of things, and it's very frustrating. The group activities are fun, the tests can be a bit hard, but if you study, you will do fine. While I just started in Professor Vaulont's class, I can confidently say that he is an incredible professor. I believe he recently started at NU, so I thought I should leave one of his first reviews. Manuel makes a boring class as fun as possible with in-class activities and a fun and easy group project. Papers are a bit difficult, and he grades them tough but gives good feedback so you can improve on the following ones. Exams are easy and a lot of elements go into your grade which is nice.
