Assignments from September graded on literally the last day of classes. Doesn't respond to emails half the time, also rude when he does respond. Grades are arbitrary and no feedback is provided. Class itself is pretty easy as long as you memorize definitions. You need to get at least a 94 for an A (he doesn't round) and tests are long and worth a lot of your grade. Steve is very charismatic and his class covers two NUpaths so overall I recommend.COMM1000 2025-01-15 22:26:33 +0000 UTC
Had him for COMM1101 and was miserable because of how annoying he was, but took him this semester and I truly think he's more tolerable in smaller lectures. I surprisingly really enjoyed his lectures and he made it fun to listen to (which I would have never said last sem). I love Steve! His examples and the way he can reillustrate the same concept in different ways makes it so the content really sticks -- you onlyy really need to review for exams if you pay attention in class. I took Public Speaking with him, he's great. He makes you feel comfortable even if you have bad stage fright like I did. He'll make you laugh every class and takes the time to talk to each student and actually cares about how you're progressing. Professor Steve explains concepts clearly and offers office hours to support students who struggle with exams. However, his stories can feel distracting, exams are harder than necessary, and he sometimes responds differently to students. I'm also uncomfortable that critical reviews appear to be removed. Steve is one of the only teachers I've had where I'm actually engaged in lectures. His lectures were the best! he made jokes and analogies so that everything was super easy to understand. I really had no connection to him and felt like he basically turned everything into something about himself - the stories were sometimes funny, but mostly just things no one really cared about. Amazing professor. Entertaining lectures. Class is about leadership and teamwork. Content is very basic (you will not learn a single insightful thing all semester, it's all obvious observations about how groups function). Steve made the material really fun and engaging in his lectures. His grading criteria and grades felt fair, and I had a good idea of what grade I was going to get based off of the rubrics. He didn't respond to a SINGLE one of my emails. For the final group project, one of my group members stopped responding. You'd think professor would respond to emails when the class is asynch. Steve is an overall nice professor, but he doesn't respond to his emails, at least in a timely fashion. This has given me a lot of anxiety when it comes to certain things and I really wish he was more accessible outside of class.
