Dr. Hoff has great expertise in his field so you will learn a lot in this course. He is a tough grader so make sure you ask questions or visit office hours to talk about your ideas regarding the paper. Participation matters so do the readings and come prepared. Dr. Hoff is genuinely the best professor I have had at Northeastern. If you go to class, participate, do the readings, and read the rubric for the paper clearly, you can get an A. He makes his expectations very clear and he creates a class environment that actually promotes having conversations with your peers. He has in depth knowledge of healthcare, but his ego makes it hard to appreciate. He comes across as arrogant, which can make interactions challenging. Also, be aware that he uses a tracking system to monitor how long students interact with his modules. Just talks for the entire time most classes. Makes it impossible to finish with an A because there are so few grades and he's very tough. Really high expectations of your healthcare knowledge and expects a high level of nuance. Pros: Excellent lecturer and interesting content. Cons: he puts way too much pressure on students. Much heavier emphasis on your grades than actually understanding/enjoying the course content. He is a great teacher who teaches a lot about the healthcare system. He asks a lot of his students but if you put in the time you will learn a lot. If you don't time manage this class will be hard.
