Overall really chill course. Consists of 2 midterm papers, a final presentation and a final paper. She doesn't take attendance but it's important you go to class because there are no in class slides on canvas. Because of that classes can be a little dreadful and long cause you have to make sure to pay attention, but I would take again!PHIL1111 2025-12-04 16:30:08 +0000 UTC
Professor Kelting was a very nice person. However, her class is only graded on 3 assignments. 2 exams and an essay which is only done outside of class time. The only lecture notes are the ones she says during class and there are no slides to follow along to, and her lectures are not recorded. Dont take this class unless you have to.PHIL1275 2025-09-02 19:04:54 +0000 UTC
prof. kelting is very nice, seems like she cares about her students and the class load is generally pretty light. the final paper was graded in less than a week so the grading comments read like she only took a cursory skim of the essay. i'd reccomend taking another class if you're actually knowledgeable or passionate about the topicISLAM280 2024-04-12 14:50:28 +0000 UTC
Please do yourself a favor and do NOT take her class. As an elective, this class is very hard and requires so much writing. There’s also a 10 page research paper with exams every few week. She’s a nice lady but doesn't explain stuff relevant to the exam. DO NOT TAKE IT!!!! I did the mistake of taking because it’s “online”ISLAM 2022-03-10 03:23:17 +0000 UTC
while she is a very kind and positive person, kelting is not a good professor. she is all over the place when it comes to her lectures, she is inconsistent with providing information about class work and exams/homework, and she is very bad at responding to emails. i would not recommend this class as it is just so much to deal with.PHL1275 2018-04-19 15:12:29 +0000 UTC
Very Good Professor, smart in Eastern & Western ReligionsPHLU275 2018-02-25 11:13:55 +0000 UTC
OMG! I would never a take class with her again. She is all over the place and dosen't know how to deliver her thoughts. I probably didn't have one complete sentence written in my notes. She also has many facts about Hinduism and Buddhism wrong, since my family is Hindu I could vouch for certain traditions. She also never gives back papers on time.RELS1275 2017-08-09 09:43:10 +0000 UTC
Kelting is super cool, really smart, and one of the nicest profs you'll ever have. She's super down to earth and understands what it's like to be a a student. However, she is all over the place. She has a lot going on and puts grading on the back burner. I did not get a single grade (for either of the two classes I took with her) until mid-April.RELS1280 2016-04-09 15:57:39 +0000 UTC
I took her class last year and she was an amazing woman. She's so fascinating. Knows a TON about religion. She assigns a couple cool projects - like she'll have you go to a religious service (of a different religion than your own) and write about it . Very cool. She uses blue books for exams.RELS1111 2015-12-10 15:42:08 +0000 UTC
I really enjoyed her class; I think she's a great teacher. You do a lot of reading, take a mid-term and final and write a research paper. It isn't an extraordinary amount of work. We're in college, right? She knows her stuff--speaks Farsi and has lived extensively in India. Very friendly. I took detailed notes, used those for exam and got an A.RELILM 2009-12-01 12:57:26 +0000 UTC
Kelting is great. One of my favorites and I would love to take another of her classes. Seems to really know what she's talking about and makes for some truly interesting lectures. Assigns a great deal of reading but doesn't use it on the exams, which are essay format.PHL275 2008-12-14 20:41:55 +0000 UTC
Prof. Kelting offers challenging courses (I've taken two) and heaps on the work. I have no problem with that. I'm here to learn. She's taught me a lot. Her enthusiasm, availability, and helpfulness are above and-beyond. It's sick that the negative reviews of Prof. Kelting here stress how much work she requires. Stop whining and try studying!PHLU280 2007-07-09 15:08:32 +0000 UTC
Kelting is one of the best professors at NU. She is funny, open, warm, engaging, and INCREDIBLY knowledgeable. She is constantly striving to improve the classroom experience in any way possible. She does a great job of writing notes on the board as well as giving examples most people can relate to. Highly recommended!!!!ERELSECT 2007-01-24 16:06:03 +0000 UTC
Awful class. Huge amounts of reading, but tests/papers are on her terrible notes. Took class as requirement, bad idea. Way too much work, and way too difficult. Take an easier class.REL1 2006-11-01 04:09:20 +0000 UTC
Very smart, personable. Lectures are very interesting, Kelting makes room for some discussion and interaction. Reading is decent except for when we start a new unit. Midterm was difficult, but papers are easy if you pace yourself responsibly. 2 papers, 1 is small, 1 is a larger research paper. In class essay midterm and final.EASTRELIGIONS 2006-03-20 16:11:59 +0000 UTC
