I you want to understand something as important as financial accounting, don't take this professor. She can't speak English properly, as her thick accent makes it sound as she is saying something completely different to what she means. If you are going to take accounting with anyone, take it with Professor Xiao, she gives you everything you need to get an A. I thought at the beginning of the year I would fail, but after I realized all I had to do was use her resources and GO TO CLASS, my grade went up. Professor Xiao is an incredible lecturer. She uses class time super effectively and is very good at explaining concepts and giving examples to students. She is a wonderful professor and I don't think her accent is hard to understand like many people say. I really enjoyed it even if was very lecture-based. Prof. Xiao is a great professor who is very caring. Her accent is thick but she is still easily understandable. People complain about the accent but I think they are just making excuses for why they did bad in the class. Very straightforward class, not complicated. Lectures can be slow at times but overall bearable. I think she does a good job making concepts clear and digestible. If you want complete clarity when learning a class such as accounting, avoid. Unfortunately this class is lecture heavy and she doesn't have the necessary English-speaking level to teach this class. Her practice handouts and homework assignments are very similar to her quizzes and exams, so as long as you do them you will be fine. Professor Xiao is an excellent teacher for accounting. Lectures are based from the textbook so I would suggest coming to lectures prepared. Homeworks and practice make the material a lot more digestible. Her accent isn't as bad as people say and she's very understandable. Class is very lecture heavy and attendance plays an incredibly important role (you will not pass or get a good grade if you skip). The kind of class where you'll have to teach yourself. Very precise with attendance (be there by the second the class starts). Overviews the chapters, pay REALLY good attention. I took this class in the summer so it might be different on a normal term but I thought she was pretty good.
