Prof liu isn't a bad teacher but his lectures are so boring I feel like I'm going to fall asleep. His tests are not too bad if you study but he made the final impossible and everyone I know bombed it, but he gave a fat curve. This guy is the MAN. He's awesome, super clear and gives a million examples in class, plus time to do them in class. Don't listen to the rest of the comments, his accent is fine (by no means the worst at NU) and you really have to put NO effort in to not get at least a B. Started out the year on a great foot. Really enjoyed the class and Kelvin. As the semester progressed, the class became much more tedious and Kelvin didn't seem he had a great handle of the material. Professor Liu cares a lot about his students! It is important to attend lectures (attendance is worth 10% of your grade). Tests were overall very reasonable (final more difficult than midterms). He's your most basic lecturer professor out there. If you can do well in class where the professor just reads notes at you and you have to teach yourself, then he's not bad. Doesn't seem to really care about the class or students very much, seems like he's more of a research guy. Don't agree with previous reviews. Prof Liu is actually really efficient and effective with his lectures. Sure, they're a bit heavy in content but not a minute is wasted in class. He's thorough with the concepts and his in class handouts really set you up for success as long as you supplement it with the textbook questions as practice. He puts the most minimal effort into class. He takes all lecture directly from the textbook and does not directly teach us half of what we are tested on. He also says that the textbook is not required but if you do not do the homework from the textbook you don't have enough practice problems to succeed.
