Simply put, the best professor I've ever had. He's not going to grill you on terminology or surprise you with random busy work, he just wants you to learn. You'll spend some classes just talking about current events, it's more of a conversation and less of a lecture.INTL2240 2017-10-17 16:58:09 +0000 UTC
Best professor I ever had! Very inspirational, a true source of knowledge.SOC215 2016-11-09 17:15:26 +0000 UTC
Took my senior capstone course with him. He is one of those rare people you meet whose perspective on life and sheer knowledge of history makes him truly inspiring. A brilliant man indeed. Will it be an easy A? No. But if you came to college to learn from intellectuals, this is the man to take.INTL4700 2013-11-04 20:51:58 +0000 UTC
I had Jones for two classes, one on Russia/Soviet Union and one on globalization. He is awesome. You really learn a ton from his lectures. Only two tests, midterm and final. He gives you the essay questions beforehand but he grades them pretty hard. If you don't do the reading and reference it in the tests, you will do poorly. Attendance not mandatorySOC200S 2009-12-21 05:27:11 +0000 UTC
Professor Jones is the best professor I've ever had. He's witty, insightful, and has some of the best stories. He's seen Soviet Russia- and that REALLY matters when teaching on this topic. The reading is great- I kept most of the books for my collection. The grade is based on 2 exams-which are hard, even if you study.SOCU215 2008-08-27 22:05:44 +0000 UTC
Be prepared to learn! He's a great lecturer and if you come into the class wanting to learn more about Russia/USSR, then you'll have an incredible time ... just don't expect getting an A. Getting just a B in the course tends to be an uphill battle.SOCU210 2008-03-15 23:44:30 +0000 UTC
The class is boring (falling asleep is easy) at times but he really knows what he is talking about and it can be very interesting. Read the books because that is basically what he tests on. You don't need to go to class everyday but get the questions for the midterm/final he gives out beforehand. He is really cute little English man and I loved himSOC210 2006-12-06 11:54:57 +0000 UTC
I had him for a class on Russia, He's a good man. You don't really need to go to class all the time, but as long as you pay some attention he's got your back. I would take a bullet for himSOCR330 2004-03-24 17:17:18 +0000 UTC
He's an amazing guy. Unless you were born from royalty you'll never meet a man like him. He knows so much about what he speaks about and is willing to learn from YOU. If you know more about something than he does he will sit back and hear you speak about it rather than shut you down because you don't have a Ph. D. Take this class and you love it.INTL2240 2014-12-09 12:27:40 +0000 UTC
Professor Jones' Russian Sociology class is extremely insightful. He really knows his stuff and presents the material in a fairly objective manner letting u reach conclusions on ur own. He's a great lecturer! But u need to take notes and do the readings to do well on the mid term (50% of grade) and final (50% of grade).SOC215 2008-01-10 00:45:58 +0000 UTC
The exams are based on the reading, regardless as to whether or not they were discussed in class, but they usually always are (at least a broad sense), so taking good notes is necessary too. A lot of work, but as he says, the class isn't to trip you up, it's to inspire you to learn. More professors should be like that.SOCU215 2008-02-23 12:38:33 +0000 UTC
My reccomendation is to drink a lot of caffeine before class because although he's a wonderful prof and a great person, students tend to daze off. But, he is a great teacher.SOCU210 2004-11-17 14:00:15 +0000 UTC
He is such an amazing teacher! Few teaching at this school are as knowledgeable as he is. He also really wants you to learn, and does try to make things more difficult than they need to be. You have to read, but if you do, you will learn so much.SOC210 2006-09-08 17:17:57 +0000 UTC
This cute little old man really cares about his students and knows what he is talking about. You have to do the readings in order to do well on the in-class short essay exams (midterm 50%, final 50%)- Attendance is not graded but you'll learn so much from him!SOC215 2007-01-08 20:33:38 +0000 UTC
Hey comrades! this little english man is very adorable and hes got a soft voice so listen up Vin. He loves when students ask stupid questions right you red haired freak. Oh yeah hell play some of the gayest movies about russia. Dont need to go to class just go get a copy of the questions that will be on the final. Diet sprite and meatball subs!SOC215 2005-08-10 17:28:46 +0000 UTC
