I looked forward to these lectures everyday. On the first day of class he admitted that he didn't know the material very well (this was his first semester teaching Modern), but it was impossible to tell. He's actually a genius. TAKE ANY CLASS WITH PROFESSOR STUMP! I took his philosophy of emotions class and truly looked forward to our classes and the discussions. There are some reading but it is manageable and Professor Stump makes sure everyone understands the arguments before we begin discussing. Excellent prof and someone you should meet. A previous student told me to, wait and see how he makes participation so easy. Class is fun. Students voice absurd&/brilliant ideas because they trust hell do something productive with them. The work, while intellectually challenging, is simple and short. You could literally be any major, any personality and you are going to be engaged in this course provided you have any interest in philosophy, which i'm assuming everyone taking the course is. Professor Stump is the greatest professor I have ever had at Northeastern. He's chill, mindful of his students, accessible outside of class, and enthusiastic to teach the course. Professor Stump is a rockstar of a professor. He makes class incredibly engaging. He takes time to build a real connection with his students. He inspired me and many others to become combined majors or minors in Philosophy. It is very easy to do well in his class and his assignments are very straight forward (he is a light grader). The best phil professor I've ever had! It's incredible how he facilitates discussion so well, and you learn so much! Very accommodating and wants you to learn and grow.Doesn't force participation either. Prof Stump is INCREDIBLE! So accessible out of class and clearly wants you to succeed. Loved the structure of the week-to-week assignments and the flexibility with the final project. Stump is a gem of a person and professor. He is very open and available outside of class. He grades fairly and his assignments have specific instructions when needed. Professor Stump is one of the best philosophy professors I have had an Northeastern. He is kind, engaging in class, and very accessible outside of class. He assigns a lot of small assignments, which can start to stack up. He really cares about the content of the course and is truly inquiring with the class.
