Had him for Elements of Visual Composition during freshman year. Lecture 15%, studio time 70%, feedback 15%. Very experienced and always gives great feedback on both pros and cons. Super chill dude, teaches everything about VR from the beginning, all the work is projects. Just make sure to attend class, you will miss quite a bit if you don't show up, but Jamal is really understanding and gives extensions. Jamal is amazing!! Very comfortable environment and puts in effort to get to know his students. Within a day or two of classes he already knew all of us by name & would specifically ask us questions. This prof is extremely racist. If youre a white or black student, then like the other students said, he teaches not bad. However, if your are an asian, he gives extremely unfair grades. I've had Jamal for a few classes, and he's one of my favorite teachers. He gives you a lot of creative freedom and will help you if you have any questions. Jamal's awesome. He def knows his stuff & is passionate about teaching it. You'll learn a lot in this class and from him. He has great energy and his feedback is really helpful. The class was super easy and informative--perfect for new design students. The assignments were busy work, but all were graded easily. Jamal is not only a professor, but an art mentor to the students who enter his class. His skill doesn't only translate into results on canvas for his students, but merely allows him to understand each student's strengths and weaknesses in order to aid each student in the way they individually need to be. Jamal is a great professor. I had him for ARTF1000 and ARTF1220. He's very understanding and gives good feedback on art pieces. Jamal makes class so much fun and introduces a huge variety of projects that test you're capabilities and make you think outside of the box. He challenges you, but evaluates each student on an individual level and pushes them to improve, not to meet a certain standard.
