Knowledgable on the subject, but not very approachable. Lectures in class are based on the readings (almost entirely)which is somewhat helpful but usually feels repetitive. There are 3 exams for the semester-all multiple choice. You don't get to see what problems you missed on exams unless you go in for office hours. Nice professor and an easy A if you complete all the readings, attend class, and complete the study guides before the exams thoroughly. Class can be boring and some of the exam questions are specifically worded to trip you up which can be frustrating. Professor Cannon is extremely knowledgeable in his field and tries to make the material he's teaching accessible to his students. He finds topical information to tie into older cinematic theories and keeps things fresh. He will teach you how to write a paper in increments, which is helpful. Lectures were very lengthy and pretty boring because he read off a script he wrote. They weren't very helpful either because everything was repeated from the readings. Lectures can get fairly boring but very necessary to do well in the class. Take notes on everything and use the study guides provided. I didn't like how serious the class was and it was intimidating to ask questions. This class was really interesting, the only thing is that you really need to attend class in order to do well on exams. He gives you up to 4 absences without penalty, but I would definitely recommend not skipping more than 2. Lectures aren't that engaging. He tends to use lengthy and mouthy words to describe simple concepts. I mainly daydream in class and rely on readings to study. Prof. Cannon is incredible. He really knows his stuff and he is super knowledgable. I would love to see what he's like outside of class because he seems like an awesome friend to have. Professor Cannon is an excellent speaker. His lectures are always clear and valuable, but can be boring at time. Honestly, you really only have to do the readings or listen to lectures, both aren't absolutely necessary. Cannon really set a high bar for all other professors I'll have. The guy really knows what he's talking about and lectures are smooth and timed insanely well. I would not recommend taking this class unless it is specific to your major. The exams were unnecessarily challenging and full of trick questions.
