He is a good professor. He is funny in his own way, teaches alot in a bit of time given to him and just a quick tip, go to his class before a test. Super helpful.MUSC1103 2015-04-29 15:04:52 +0000 UTC
A generally nice and chill teacher in class. Didn't give a whole lot of work, but the grading was on the harsh side. Hope you get a good group for projects.AFRS1128 2012-12-15 14:56:24 +0000 UTC
Definitely a nice guy, very cool. A little confusing about assignments, have to present parts of the book to the class, but tests aren't ridiculously hard and it's not hard to do well, but he loves class participationHT3 2009-11-18 19:45:54 +0000 UTC
Prof. Brown gives much more work than what is expected for a 128 class. I took this class because it sounded like I wouldn't have to do much work, but you really do. My group was terrible for the project at the end too. Study your face off for each exam, as they contribute to a large portion of your grade.AFRU128 2008-04-17 23:22:18 +0000 UTC
One short book, three tests, and a final project is not an excessive load of work for a college class! We listened to music, watched movies, and had interesting discussions most of the time. I don't know what people are expecting when they walk into this class, but Dr. Brown is a great professor and he should be recognized for that.MUS103 2007-07-09 16:20:58 +0000 UTC
1)alot of work 2)funny guy 3)a lot of pointless research 4)better hope you have good people in your group 5)a lot of work. 6)the books are so freakin expensive for no reasonJAZZ 2006-05-30 15:02:28 +0000 UTC
The man is very nice, but he gives an upsetting amount of work and grades rather hard. Also he pretty much rambles about personal anecdotes of muscians in class, not teaching you much. His reviews explain nothing, you dont have to know stylistic qualities. if your struggling, talk to him, hes likes to help.MUS 2006-04-05 23:53:25 +0000 UTC
he is hard. he gives waaaay to much work and is very vague about what to know for the exams. its very tedious. i was very interested in jazz before, now i loathe it.INTROTOJAZZ 2006-03-02 19:44:14 +0000 UTC
Yeah... Don't expect this guy to cut you any slack should your group not give a damn about their part. I memorized his "study sheets" forward and back only to end up with a B because of a bad final project. Tread carefuly.AFRU112 2005-09-17 18:57:42 +0000 UTC
Class is very interesting, sometimes too long, though. Unlike what some other ppl said, he is correct in his information, and anyone who thinks otherwise should get their info straight. The class is pretty easy too. I think his accent is hot.MUSICASMEANS 2005-04-04 21:38:50 +0000 UTC
A nice guy, but this class is almost unbearable to sit through at 1 1/2. Sadly, he thinks that all music originates from Black music and the blues and consequently a class that should cover a variety of musical genres is limited by his closed minded beliefs. Just spit back what he tells you in classMUSASSOCEXP 2005-02-23 22:57:53 +0000 UTC
Really cool teacher who takes a serious interest in this class. He gives a decent amount of work, mostly taking notes and reading. It's stuff you don't have to do but will want come test time. The class is cool but tends to get boring and lasts about 40 minutes too long. Still a decent class though.MUSU103 2005-02-23 19:39:05 +0000 UTC
Music as a Social Expression. Class ends up being about how blacks influence all music and are basically kings of music. I don't pay attention and then learn it all in one night before the test. Unclear, because he slurs his speech.MUSSOCEX 2004-03-25 01:10:41 +0000 UTC
