TAKETHISCLASS. Taught by a grad student, not Matt. You only see him on online video lectures. I'm not great with public speaking; this class definitely helped. Daily speeches every day. It was inspiring to hear other's talk about their experiences. People complained, vented, talked about their favorite book. Everything. I will miss this class.COMM1112 2025-12-06 05:08:48 +0000 UTC
Social Movement Comm was a very thought-provoking course. Each class was a discussion about a homework reading. He encourages participation and creates a non-judgmental atmosphere for students to share. He's fun to listen to and approachable with questions. The course has lots of writing for hw assignments but most of them are short and low-stakes.COMM1412 2025-04-28 22:10:48 +0000 UTC
This class was super easy. I learned a lot, and anyone could as long as they put effort into speeches and show up to class. However, he does not teach the class. You watch online lectures from him as homework (10-15 mins), but the class itself is taught by a grad student. Easy A as long as you put in effort, and the grad student was super nice.COMM1112 2025-12-02 17:59:01 +0000 UTC
Really, really amazing prof! Hope to take classes from him in the future, can't recommend him enough! Always so knowledgable, passionate, and engaging. Classes involve a lot of casual partner/class discussions; prof makes sure everyone's heard. Homework/bigger assignments and tests are totally easy, just show up and take good notes.COMM1412 2025-04-14 23:33:57 +0000 UTC
The professor never showed up to class, it's taught by a grad student. Easy class but I didn't learn anything. The grad student is very nice. Grades are easy. As long as you show up you'll get an A. You would have to try to get a bad grade, and even then, I don't think you could do it.COMM1112 2025-11-21 13:20:59 +0000 UTC
I LOVEEEE DR P!!! This was my fav class all year (as a stem major). He made everyone feel so understood and cared for. Participation matters but this was the least intimidating class ever and so enjoyable, even as a quiet student. Course content was relevant and interesting, though there's a lot of reading. Would def take classes with him againCOMM1412 2025-02-19 00:58:01 +0000 UTC
This class was very interesting, but not difficult. He taught the concepts of speaking in interesting ways. TA gives good feedback on speeches. Grading isn't too tough, good amount of speech assignments, some reflections, and easy 3 question untimed quizzes based on the lectures. Very nice guy, fun class.COMM1112 2025-06-27 01:53:51 +0000 UTC
I'd recommend social movement communication to everyone. He was such an easy teacher and grader and so clear and straight forward and I learned so much from the class.COMM1412 2024-11-05 22:21:23 +0000 UTC
Matt Pitchford is a great professor. His class is very fun and students are prompted to participate and engage in discussion. Speeches require preparation, but as long as you don't stand with your hands in your pockets and read off a sheet of paper you will do just fine. Absolutely recommend.COMM1112 2024-11-20 18:24:54 +0000 UTC
Fantastic professor. Definitely take his class. He gives students a comfortable class environment to overcome nerves when speaking in front of an audience. Students give short 1-2 minute speeches daily regarding a random topic which is amazing practice. All of the speech prompts are clear and you are able to pick topics you are passionate about.COMM1112 2024-11-20 18:22:12 +0000 UTC
just a public speaking class, he made us do different type of presentations. speaking exercises with partners most of the time and the final is a Pros and cons debate where you speak for like 5 minutesCOMM1112 2024-04-18 20:38:22 +0000 UTC
