Maxim is a very interesting character. Its easy to do well in the class, but you do have to work to get there. He can be a bit odd at times, but hes a very nice guy who wants the students to learnCOMM111 2010-04-24 17:33:42 +0000 UTC
Good professor but class was not what I expected. You were taught more how to write a speech than rather how to deliver it. Although speeches were graded on delivery, half of it was graded on content... The professor was also very political and often showed his views. Provides strong feedback but can be very critical of speeches sometimes.CMNU112 2009-04-29 18:21:58 +0000 UTC
Pretty good teacher. You do have to read the textbook in preparation for quizzes, but theres no final!PUBSP112 2008-12-12 14:41:25 +0000 UTC
Impossible to do bad in this class. All you have to do is show up. 4 speeches and a few quizzes that are common sense--right out of the textbook.CMN112 2008-05-18 18:09:41 +0000 UTC
great professor; not the easiest class, but you learn a lot!COMM112 2008-03-05 12:06:53 +0000 UTC
He likes to change his mind frequently. He also belittles students in class. He's very pompous. Instructions not always clear.PUBSP1 2007-08-25 13:52:29 +0000 UTC
He's a very intelligent, often funny guy. He knows his stuff, but somehow there is a disconnect between his knowledge and his teaching. I just felt unprepared for everything we did. It's like class is one thing and quizzes and assignments are an entirely different course. Both are interesting in their own way, but I'd steer clear if I could help itCOMU101 2007-04-30 11:03:23 +0000 UTC
As a person, Max is extremely intelligent and I have a lot of respect for him. But he is not cut out to be a teacher. Lectures are horribly boring and pointless. Quizzes are on readings we never discussed in class. Make sure you follow the rubrics for the papers as he hardly talks about them in class and what he expects. Don't bother participating.CMNU101 2006-12-19 13:15:12 +0000 UTC
Max is the worst teacher i've ever had. He never passes anything back, and won't help you during office hours with assignments because he feels that it's "unfair" to other students. He grades 20% on class participation, even though he doesn't know half of our names. And he lectures...forever. drop his class now!CMN101 2006-12-19 12:09:50 +0000 UTC
i was really scared to take this public speaking class, but it was required to get into communications major. i ended up loving it! the most useful class i have taken so far.CMN112 2008-04-17 17:10:45 +0000 UTC
Ohhhh boy. As a person, he's so nice. As a teacher, worst ever. Never discusses the readings we do but quizzes us on them, so you never know what to expect. Hard grader. Three papers worth the bulk of your grade but he doesn't prepare you well enough for them. Extremely boring. I hope you like to read cause you have to from cover-to-cover to pass.CMN101 2006-11-30 12:19:30 +0000 UTC
I had him for public speaking. He's a really really nice guy, although there definitely are complaints. The tests are on readings we never go over so they are very unpredictable. He can also be a little harsh at grading. However, he gives very constructive criticism after you present a speech in class.CMN112 2008-02-01 16:17:29 +0000 UTC
really nice guy, means well, but decided it would be a good idea to assign papers worth 20% and not look them over for constructive criticism because that would be "unfair." Does that make any sense? Gets off track often, too long of a class for him to keep students entertained.CMN101 2006-11-14 23:40:56 +0000 UTC
Max is an OK guy, but he gets very off track in lectures. Don't take his class if you're a republican unless you like to debate, all he does is bash George Bush. He doesn't really talk about the readings in class, but quizzes you on them, so you basically need to teach yourself the material. He's understanding if you have difficulty though.CMN101 2006-10-25 18:19:09 +0000 UTC
