Prof Ellis was a very engaging lecturer who values student participation (prepare for him to cold call on people!). He's relatable, funny, and approachable if you have questions. The class is fine apart from one thing, the professor thinks it is ok to assign students a major group project on a Thursday and expect a full fledged 15-minute presentation on Monday. Our group spent many hours on a Sunday (the only day we were all free from work, sports, extracurriculars, etc.) to finish this. A semester-long research paper. He provides benchmark due dates to keep you on track and meets with you one on one after each section. Ellis is simply just the best prof I have had at NU. He really cares about students, offers to meet outside class time, and just wants the best for us. The course content is unbelievably relevant to today's world which makes it that much more interesting. Cannot recommend this class enough. Dr. Ellis taught remotely this semester. He managed to teach a great course despite only having synchronous meetings once a week. There was a decent to high amount of reading, but the lectures tied in all outside reading very well. Professor Ellis is very nice, however, his class is almost entirely lecture-based and he randomly calls on people all class, every class. Don't come to class and not expect to participate, he makes sure everyone speaks at least once each class. There's a lot of reading but the content is interesting. Excellent teacher, really engaging and makes you want to learn. What he expected work-wise was very fair, and is conscious of how busy we are during finals. Make sure to do the readings he assigns: they're not too time-intensive, are mostly interesting, and are important for active class participation.
