Absolutely amazing professor and person. He made a huge effort to keep people engaged in a lecture-heavy, 30-40 person class by asking lots of discussion-based questions and learning everybody's names -which is something I feel like most professors don't do. For SOCL 3300: One of the best professors I've had. It's a class you get graded on writing and participation... nothing with testing your capability to retain information through quizzes. I absolutely recommend taking a class with Sam if you can! He is super understanding and helpful in and out of the classroom. As long as you try your best, you'll do fine! The environment in class he's created is so respectful, caring, and inclusive that I've always looked forward to his class. Sam is just a fantastic human being. Super respectful of students time (gives time to work on assigned project in class, regularly releases students early, etc.). He is eager to talk to students should things come up and he is easily accessible via email. He makes the content interesting in lectures and created a class culture that is super respectful and understanding which makes discussions great (very discussion heavy class). amazing professor, one of the best I have ever had. Respects students, helps them, has a great approach to teaching and is very accomodating. Three exams make up 60% of the grade 25% for class participation and 15% for homeworks. This might sound like a lot but really isnt. I love Sam so much. He's such a wholesome guy and facilitates great discussions. Grade is weekly reading quizzes, in-class writing responses, and 3 exams. His lectures are interesting and relevant, and he really knows what he's talking about. Sam cares about his students, is pretty flexible/understanding, and very helpful.
