Was expecting a chill elective to watch films, and was instead met with dense lectures and films about religion. Assignments weren't difficult but felt pointless. She doesn't want to see her students succeed. Minimal interactions with her but were all abysmal. Hasn't updated her lectures since COVID... let that sink in.PHIL1260 2025-11-30 22:38:55 +0000 UTC
The films we watched were pretty cool, she will turn you into a sci-fi fan. I thought our class discussions were always so interesting to just sit back and listen to, we really discuss a lot of topics such as religion, philosophy, technology, etc. She was so knowledgable as well on a lot of topics, would def take a course with her again.PHIL1667 2024-04-17 15:02:22 +0000 UTC
The classes were 3 and a half hours long and sucked the life out of me. The classes are very lecture heavy, she monologues the whole time. You're meant to watch the movies outside of class and do a lot reading. She also has a very strict late policy and is a tough grader. She didn't grant me my accommodations. Would not recommend!!PHIL1666 2023-12-02 03:10:31 +0000 UTC
Does the bare minimum to help students outside of classPHIL1269 2020-12-03 07:21:43 +0000 UTC
She's intelligent and nice but I never thought I'd pay someone so much money to take all of the enjoyment out of watching movies. No assignment is too much work by itself, but all of the assignments together are an absurd burden for the students and instructor. Wouldn't take again.RELG1260 2019-10-09 20:30:54 +0000 UTC
You get to watch movies a lot which is great. She talks for a very long time and is very boring though.RELS1260 2016-03-23 10:16:45 +0000 UTC
You watch really good movies and have two write two essays on pretty interesting topics. Although her lectures are pretty brutal and long. Take this class if you dont really want to do work (other than the two papers and presentation).REL1260 2015-11-20 00:07:43 +0000 UTC
Professor Winborne is one the most knowledgable professors that I have had to date. I have been impressed with how diverse her knowledge base is. She makes the class very thought-provoking by incorporating society, religion, sociology, and even psychology. I would recommend this class to anyone.RELS126060243 2014-07-12 08:09:12 +0000 UTC
A take-home exam referenced a book; when my friend asked where the link to this book was located in Canvas, Sheila refused to say because it was "unfair." My friend checked probably 12x for it. Why is knowing where a link is located in Canvas more important than the book's contents. Put checks and balances into academia to correct stupid thinking.PHIL1260 2025-02-19 20:14:04 +0000 UTC
lecture lecture lecture. makes lots of typos/unclear instructions on assignments that she over explains the hell out of. movies are eh, lots of group projects/participation. not a good class to take in your fifth year of schoolPHIL1667 2024-04-01 23:32:31 +0000 UTC
One of the most boring classes I took. The movies we watched were good for the most part, yet the hour or two of lecture makes you want to die. Her teaching style is so rudimentary that you'll wonder if she is actually a human or just a robot reading from a script. Her comments and reasons for grading are loose and based seemingly on nothing.PHIL1666 2015-11-08 18:43:14 +0000 UTC
Class was pitched and written as a Philosophical class when in realty it's a boring, bland, religion class. Ms. Wilborne more than certainly knows her stuff, but the 1-2 hour monotone lectures are just as interesting as they sound. Sprinkle in a bit of 2017 liberal propaganda and you have this class.RELG1260 2017-09-20 16:48:33 +0000 UTC
Would not recommend this class. She's incredibly knowledgable and that shows, but lectures are boring and miserable. Watching movies is nice, but I didn't enjoy writing about them and the topics we covered in class were unclear and boring. She's really nice and helpful, I just didn't like her lectures.RELS1260 2015-11-20 14:09:31 +0000 UTC
Was marketed at a Labeled as a Philosophy Film class turns out its a religion class about only about Christianity and only has western movies, which is disappointing. Anyone looking for a chill class to watch movies DO NOT TAKE. You watch the movies outside of class and spend 4 hours discussing them.PHIL1260 2024-09-09 17:05:52 +0000 UTC
Was great to talk to after class if you had adjacent interests to the class material. However, she is very repetitive of points she makes week-to-week in lectures and often goes on monologues that are difficult to pay attention to and prevent continuous student engagement. Be ready to do a group project that spans the whole semester.PHIL1667 2021-12-16 17:21:17 +0000 UTC
